Gifted and Talented Goal
To establish a gifted and talented program for students in grades two through eight.
After investigating traditional methods for gifted and talented students the committee determined that a program needed to be established that would benefit all children, not only those who excel academically. An in-depth talent enrichment program has been developed that will stretch the imagination of all students in grades pre-k through 8. The program, The SSPJ Sailing the Waters of Hope, was launched in January 2002. Students set sail on a 4-month exploration of the continent of Africa that extended along the entire curriculum and challenge all students to learn through their own special talents. Using the multiple intelligence approach, the program seeks to enhance cultural awareness, opening the school community's minds and hearts to other civilizations. The program will continue to include new ports of call and new learning experiences.
Our journey is now bringing us back into North America! We will be experiencing the historical aspects of our northern neighbor, Canada. The trip will include many wonderous train rides from the past to the present. We will also enjoy the views from above and below as we learn from airplanes, trains, and automobiles. What a splendid adventure!
Please join us as we make our fabulous voyage, continuing to learn about the lands and cultures of the world. We will occassionally show-off with some pictures and the work of some of our students.
