Dear Family!

The Fourth Sunday of Easter is traditionally known as ‘The Good Shepherd Sunday.’ All three years (A, B & C) we read from the same parable (John 10). The sacred writers of the Old Testament beautifully presented God (Holy Name of God) as the Good Shepherd and in the sacred writers of the New Testament presented Jesus as the Good Shepherd since they perfectly understood and believed that Jesus is the incarnation of God the Father, revealing us His identity by what he does as the Good Shepherd. In the same way ‘the sheep’ or ‘the flock’ are the land and people of Israel in the Old Testament and ‘The Church’ in the New Testament.

In Christian sense, a good shepherd becomes one by being a good sheep. The Son learns from the Father (John 5:19-20). Jesus learned how to be a good sheep by the shepherding love of the Father. Jesus teaches us the secrets of being and growing into a sheep of his own heart. We learn from Jesus that as a good sheep, the Son does not operate independently of the Father. In order to shepherd our family, our community, and our society, we need to operate fully depending on God and be convinced that without God we can do nothing.

We also learn from Jesus that as a good sheep, the Son is in constant touch with the Father. What motivates and encourages us to depend on God is our constant touch with God through prayer especially our love for the Eucharist. It is the Eucharist that unifies us with Jesus most intimately. We also learn from Jesus that as a good sheep, Jesus does what he discerns the Father is doing. We learn everything that is good from God: our parenting style, carrying out our responsibilities of being a good Christian, good citizen, and a good neighbor. Our goodness comes from God alone. We are good because God loves us.

I thank you for your generous contributions towards the Bishop’s Annual Appeal. We have contributed $54,315 of our target amount ($78,000) with 242 families contributing so far. This is a huge effort by our parish. In the coming weeks, I encourage you to participate in this effort if you have not been part of it before so that our parish can achieve our goal of helping our diocese to cater to its various needs.

My sincere thanks to the Search Committee for all their commitment and diligence. We have come to the final phase of identifying our new principal. By God’s help we will be announcing the new principal soon. Please pray for the Committee and the candidates who applied for this position.

I also urge you to pray for our children who are receiving their Holy Communion this Saturday and next Saturday. I thank their parents, godparents, grandparents for their spiritual influence in the life of our children. It is a wonderful Christian thing to worship as a family! There is great rejoicing for a priest to witness families coming to Mass!

The monthly seminars on Eucharistic Revival at our parish will be starting on May 10th at 6:30pm. Please see the flyer and I urge you to spread the word. You are always welcome to be a leader in this ’72 Disciples’ team. Your support and encouragement are already helping our parish.

Cuarto domingo de Pascua

¡Querida Familia!

El Cuarto Domingo de Pascua se conoce tradicionalmente como el "Domingo del Buen Pastor". En los tres años (A, B y C) leemos de la misma parábola (Juan 10). Los escritores sagrados del Antiguo Testamento presentaron hermosamente a Dios (Santo Nombre de Dios) como el Buen Pastor y los escritores sagrados del Nuevo Testamento presentaron a Jesús como el Buen Pastor ambos entendieron y creyeron perfectamente que Jesús es la encarnación de Dios Padre, revelándonos Su identidad por medio de lo que hace como Buen Pastor. De la misma manera, "las ovejas" o "el rebaño" es la tierra y el pueblo de Israel en el Antiguo Testamento y "La Iglesia" en el Nuevo Testamento.

En el sentido cristiano, un buen pastor se convierte en uno siendo una buena oveja. El Hijo aprende del Padre (Juan 5:19-20). Jesús aprendió a ser oveja de Dios por el amor pastoril del Padre. Jesús nos enseña los secretos de ser y crecer como oveja de su propio corazón. Aprendemos de Jesús que como buena oveja, el Hijo no opera independientemente del Padre. Para poder pastorear nuestra familia, nuestra comunidad y nuestra sociedad, necesitamos operar plenamente dependiendo de Dios y estar convencidos de que sin Dios no podemos hacer nada.

También aprendemos de Jesús que como buena oveja, el Hijo está en contacto constante con el Padre. Lo que nos motiva y anima a depender de Dios es nuestro contacto constante con Dios a través de la oración, especialmente nuestro amor por la Eucaristía. Es la Eucaristía la que más íntimamente nos une con Jesús. También aprendemos de Jesús que como una buena oveja, Jesús hace lo que discierne que el Padre está haciendo. Aprendemos todo lo que es bueno de Dios: nuestro estilo de crianza, cumpliendo con nuestras responsabilidades de ser un buen cristiano, buen ciudadano y prójimo. Nuestra bondad viene sólo de Dios. Somos buenos porque Dios nos ama.

Les agradezco sus generosas contribuciones a la Campaña Anual del Obispo. Hemos contribuido $54,315 de nuestra cantidad objetivo ($78,000) con 242 familias contribuyendo hasta ahora. Este es un gran esfuerzo de nuestra parroquia. En las próximas semanas, los animo a participar en este esfuerzo si no lo han hecho antes para que nuestra parroquia pueda lograr nuestro objetivo de ayudar a nuestra diócesis en sus diversas necesidades.

Mi más sincero agradecimiento al comité de búsqueda por todo su compromiso y diligencia. Hemos llegado a la fase final de identificar a nuestro nuevo director de escuela. Con la ayuda de Dios, pronto anunciaremos al nuevo director. Oren por el comité y los candidatos que solicitaron este puesto.

También les pido que oren por nuestros niños que recibieron la Sagrada Comunión este sábado y los que lo recibirán el próximo sábado. Agradezco a sus padres, padrinos, abuelos por su influencia espiritual en la vida de nuestros hijos. ¡Es una maravilla cristiana adorar en familia! ¡Es un gran regocijo para un sacerdote ver a las familias venir a la Misa!

Las charlas mensuales sobre el Avivamiento Eucarístico en nuestra parroquia comenzarán el 10 de mayo a las 6:30pm. Por favor, vea el folleto y les pido a que corra la voz. Siempre eres bienvenido a ser un líder en el grupo de '72 Discípulos'. Su apoyo y ánimo ya están ayudando a nuestra parroquia. ¡Gracias! Sigamos creciendo como ovejas de nuestro Buen Pastor.
