Sixth Sunday of Easter

Dear Family!

Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers! We began our Marian Month on the 1st of May. My best wishes to our children who have received their First Holy Communion and also thank them for their participation in honoring our Blessed Mother last Sunday with the May Crowning ceremony. My sincere thanks to Escarlen Duran, Diane Volk, Sr. Ellen, Jo-Ann Scott, Mrs. Caligiuri and all the volunteers who have prepared our children for this important Sacrament. A special thanks to the family, especially the parents for their generosity and faith in preparing our children for the Sacrament.

Please be advised of the directive from our diocese regarding ‘Moving the Solemnity of Ascension permanently to the 7th Sunday of Easter’: “As you know for each of the past two years, the dioceses of the Latin Rite Province of Newark in New Jersey have transferred the Solemnity of the Ascension of Our Lord to the Seventh Sunday of Easter. This issue has been discussed at the Presbyteral council meetings of each of the dioceses. Recently the bishops of New Jersey met and after discussing the pros and cons of this practice have discerned that the Solemnity of the Ascension be permanently transferred from Thursday of the Sixth Week of Easter to the following Sunday. The bishops’ discernment included a great desire for more of the faithful to participate in this integral dimension of the completion of Our Lord's paschal mystery by the Ascension observed on a Sunday.” (March 25, 2022, Memorandum, Diocese of Metuchen)

This Sunday's readings are important for understanding the sacrament of confirmation. Indeed, confirmation (or chrismation) is closely linked to Pentecost. Pope Paul VI explains that confirmation "in a certain way perpetuates the grace of Pentecost in the Church.” The readings this Sunday help us prepare for Pentecost Sunday.

Catechism teaches us that “Before his Passover, Jesus announced the sending of "another Paraclete" (Advocate), the Holy Spirit. At work since creation, having previously "spoken through the prophets", the Spirit will now be with and in the disciples, to teach them and guide them "into all the truth.” The Holy Spirit is thus revealed as another divine person with Jesus and the Father.” (CCC 243)

We are in the final stages of announcing the new principal. After the completion of paperwork, there will be a formal announcement. I thank the ‘Search Committee for their diligence and council. We are very fortunate to have a great team that represented all walks of parish life. Our diocese has been a great support in all stages of procedure.

I also thank you for your efforts in contributing to our Bishops Annual Appeal. With the goal of $78,000, it is important that all families share the responsibility in small numbers. Our goal is to increase the number of gifts rather than focus on large donations from a few individuals. I also remind you that the diocese sends a good subsidy every year to our school. Your small contribution will make a great impact collectively.

Our monthly Seminars and Faith Sharing have begun. It is a great initiative by our 72 Disciples. The objective behind this is to catechize and transform our parishes well-informed in our faith and continue to grow as Eucharistic-Centered Community. I urge you to participate and become a leader.

Sexto domingo de Pascua

¡Querida Familia!
