Dear Family!

This Sunday, the readings focus on seeking the Wisdom of God. Jesus is our message as Jesus is the Wisdom of God (1st Reading) and Jesus is the Word of God (2nd Reading). There could be three kinds of people: the morally wanting, the morally good and striving for ‘Perfection’. Jesus shows the young man in the Gospel the Heart of God.

In the feeding of the 5000, ‘the morally wanting’ would never have cared for the hungry people; ‘the morally good’ would feel bad and come up with something to help; but ‘the striving for perfection’ would open his heart and share everything he has. The Eucharist we celebrate every day modeled after that sharing and striving for ‘Perfection’.

In the same order, we also see Christians that hardly abide by any laws other than personal laws; Christians with just the 10 commandments that emphasize ‘what we do’ rather than ‘what happens to others’; and the Christians who abide by the Law of love. This in turn is reflected in the Apostolic nature of our Church. Thus, we witness, people who do not share in the Faith of the Church; People who keep the faith to themselves; and people who see the compelling need to share the faith and evangelize in our own little ways.

Talking about the ‘gaze’ of Jesus, Pope Francis shared, “The young man did not allow himself to be conquered by Jesus’ loving gaze, and thus was not able to change. Only by accepting with humble gratitude the love of the Lord do we free ourselves from the seduction of idols and the blindness of our illusions. Money, pleasure, success dazzle but then disappoint: they promise life but procure death. The Lord asks us to detach ourselves from these false riches in order to enter into true life, the full, authentic, luminous life. “Have you felt Jesus’ gaze upon you? Do you prefer to leave this Square with the joy that Jesus gives us or with the sadness of heart that worldliness offers us?”.

Special Second Collection on October 27th to assist with Hurricane Helene Relief Efforts: The diocese will be sending all the proceeds to the relief. Let us keep in prayer all those who have lost loved ones, homes, and livelihoods and with those who are responding with rescue and repair efforts. Thank you for your support!

Special Masses at the Cemetery for ALL SOULS DAY: This year, All Souls Day falls on a Saturday. We have added a few masses to accommodate the spiritual needs of people. We will still have the usual 8:00am mass. In addition to that, we will have a Special Mass at 10:00am in our Cemetery. It has been a while since we celebrated a mass at the Cemetery grounds, and it is the perfect day for it. Please join us in prayer at the back of the mausoleum. There will also be the usual 4:30pm which is the Vigil Mass of Sunday. And the last of All Souls Day Mass will be a Special Mass at 7:00pm for all those who have passed away last year from the parish. We will have their pictures blessed and names read out. This special Mass at 7:00pm will be in our Church.

Special Days in October: Our diocese will have the following Masses: The Silver and Gold Anniversary Mass and celebration is on October 20th and the special Annual Blue Mass on October 30th.

Confirmation is on May 7, 2025
We will have the Confirmation Mass on May 7, 2025 at 5:00pm in our Church presided by Most Reverend Arthur Serratelli. At present we have 42 children collectively. I thank our Faith Formation Team, Mrs. Escarlen Duran, and our Confirmation Coordinator Deacon Rob Fisher, and the parents in forming our children for this important sacrament. Sunday Mass attendance is the source of all faith formation!

Pastor’s Appeal: I am forever grateful to all of you for your generosity. We continue to receive help from families. As you have heard me say more than a few times now that this year our parish’s focus will be our children and investing in our children. The demands of the church is such that we put in extra care in this venture to making our church a vibrant community. I ask you to prayerfully consider helping us with the Pastor’s Appeal this year so that our planned ideas could be implemented in time for our children and for our parish.

Querida Familia!

Este domingo, las lecturas se centran en la búsqueda de la Sabiduría de Dios. Jesús es nuestro mensaje, como Jesús es la Sabiduría de Dios (1.ª lectura) y Jesús es la Palabra de Dios (2.ª lectura). Podría haber tres tipos de personas: los moralmente deficientes, los moralmente buenos y los que luchan por la “perfección”. Jesús le muestra al joven del Evangelio el Corazón de Dios. En la alimentación de los 5000, “los moralmente deficientes” nunca se habrían preocupado por la gente hambrienta; “los moralmente buenos” se sentirían mal y se les ocurriría algo para ayudar; pero “los que luchan por la perfección” abrirían su corazón y compartirían todo lo que tienen. La Eucaristía que celebramos todos los días se basó en ese compartir y luchar por la “perfección”.

En el mismo orden, vemos también cristianos que apenas se rigen por otras leyes que no sean las personales; cristianos que sólo se rigen por los diez mandamientos y que ponen el énfasis en “lo que hacemos” en lugar de “lo que les sucede a los demás”; y cristianos que se rigen por la Ley del amor. Esto, a su vez, se refleja en la naturaleza apostólica de nuestra Iglesia. Así, vemos a personas que no comparten la fe de la Iglesia; personas que se guardan la fe para sí mismas; y personas que ven la imperiosa necesidad de compartir la fe y evangelizar a nuestra manera.

El Papa Francisco, hablando de la “mirada” de Jesús, compartió: “El joven no se dejó conquistar por la mirada amorosa de Jesús y por eso no logró cambiar. Sólo acogiendo con humilde gratitud el amor del Señor nos liberamos de la seducción de los ídolos y de la ceguera de nuestras ilusiones. El dinero, el placer, el éxito deslumbran y luego desilusionan: prometen vida pero procuran la muerte. El Señor nos pide que nos desprendamos de estas falsas riquezas para entrar en la vida verdadera, la vida plena, auténtica, luminosa. ¿Has sentido la mirada de Jesús sobre ti? ¿Prefieres salir de esta plaza con la alegría que nos da Jesús o con la tristeza del corazón que nos ofrece la mundanidad?”.

Segunda colecta especial el 27 de octubre para ayudar a las víctimas del huracán Helene: la diócesis enviará todos los fondos recaudados a las víctimas. Oremos por todos aquellos que han perdido a sus seres queridos, sus hogares y sus medios de vida y por quienes están respondiendo con las labores de rescate y reparación. ¡Gracias por su apoyo!

Misas especiales en el cementerio para el DÍA DE LOS DIURNOS: Este año, el Día de los Difuntos cae en sábado. Hemos añadido algunas misas para atender las necesidades espirituales de las personas. Seguiremos teniendo la misa habitual de las 8:00am. Además, tendremos una misa especial a las 10:00am en nuestro cementerio. Hace tiempo que no celebramos una misa en el terreno del cementerio y es el día perfecto para ello. Únase a nosotros en oración en la parte trasera del mausoleo. También habrá la misa habitual de las 4:30pm, que es la misa de vigilia del domingo. Y la última misa del Día de los Difuntos será una misa especial a las 7:00pm para todos los que fallecieron el año pasado de la parroquia. Bendeciremos sus imágenes y leeremos sus nombres. Esta misa especial a las 7:00pm será en nuestra iglesia.

Días especiales en octubre: Nuestra diócesis tendrá las siguientes misas: La misa y celebración del aniversario de plata y oro será el 20 de octubre y la misa azul anual especial será el 30 de octubre.

La Confirmación será el 7 de mayo de 2025: Tendremos la Misa de Confirmación el 7 de mayo de 2025 a las 5:00pm en nuestra Iglesia presidida por el Reverendísimo Arthur Serratelli. En la actualidad, tenemos 42 niños en conjunto. Agradezco a nuestro Equipo de Formación en la Fe, a la Sra. Escarlen Duran y a nuestro Coordinador de Confirmación, el Diácono Rob Fisher, y a los padres por formar a nuestros niños para este importante sacramento. ¡La asistencia a la Misa dominical es la fuente de toda formación en la fe!

Apelación del Pastor: Estoy eternamente agradecido a todos ustedes por su generosidad. Seguimos recibiendo ayuda de las familias. Como me han oído decir más de una vez, este año el enfoque de nuestra parroquia serán nuestros niños y la inversión en ellos. Las exigencias de la iglesia son tales que ponemos especial cuidado en esta iniciativa para hacer de nuestra iglesia una comunidad vibrante. Les pido que consideren en oración ayudarnos con la Campaña del Pastor este año para que nuestras ideas planificadas puedan implementarse a tiempo para nuestros niños y para nuestra parroquia.
