Dear Family!

The month of October is very special for us Catholics: We remember this month as Month of the Rosary as well as Pro-Life month..  The USCCB also remembers it as Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. In October we also celebrate the World Food Day (October 20th) and World Mission Sunday (Last Sunday of October).

Pope Francis wrote: “The theme of this year’s World Mission Day — ‘Go & Invite everyone to the Banquet’ (Mt 22:9), is a summons to each of us to ‘own’ and to bring to others what we bear in our hearts. This mission has always been the hallmark of the Church, for ‘she exists to evangelize’ (Evangelii Nuntiandi, 14). Jesus is our message as Jesus is the Wisdom of God. This wisdom touches the hearts of people.

Pope Saint John Paul II’s ‘Theology of the Body’ in light of marriage as a sacrament. As you may know the 129 catechetical address that the Saint gave between 1979 and 1984 have revolutionized the church’s priority of love, sexuality, and marriage. The first feature is that of the Law of the Gift. The married couples learn how to love from the Trinity. The Second feature is that of Original Solitude that reflects our 1st reading today. Adam understands that he also has a spiritual dimension unlike the rest of the creation. In solitude he reflects on the difficulty of the Law of Gift.

The third feature is the Original Unity where God provides grace to Adam in exercising the Law of Gift. He can now freely gift himself to the ‘bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh’. John Paul II notes ‘this is the first time man manifests joy’. He continues to write the 4th feature on Original Nakedness and fifth feature on Original Shame.

As the Bible begins with Marriage (Adam & Eve in Genesis) and ends with Marriage (Wedding Feast of the Lamb in Revelation), the church understands the role of Marriage in society. Catechism teaches that ‘Marriage is a covenant by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership for the whole life’ (1601), Marriage exists not only for the good of the partners and their children, but also for the good of the church and society (II Vatican).

“In every family founded on sacramental marriage, Christ and the church prolong their divine and human witness of a love that is indissolubly faithful and fruitful”. (Cardinal Marc Ouellet).

Special Second Collection on October 27th to assist with Hurricane Helene Relief Efforts: The diocese will be sending all the proceeds to the relief. Let us keep in prayer all those who have lost loved ones, homes, and livelihoods and with those who are responding with rescue and repair efforts. Thank you for your support!

Special Days in October: On October 9th there is the Online Webinar on the upcoming election sponsored by the New Jersey and Pennsylvania Catholic Conferences. Our diocese will have the following Masses: Hispanic Heritage Mass on October 11th. The Silver and Gold Anniversary Mass and celebration is on October 20th. As well as a special Annual Blue Mass on October 30th.

Confirmation is on May 7th, 2025: We will have the Confirmation Mass on May 7th, 2025 at 5:00pm in our Church presided by Most Reverend Arthur Serratelli. At present we have 42 children collectively. I thank our Faith Formation Team, Mrs. Escarlen Duran, and our Confirmation Coordinator Deacon Rob Fisher, and the parents in forming our children for this important sacrament. Sunday Mass attendance is the source of all faith formation!

Pastor’s Appeal: I am forever grateful to all of you for your generosity. We continue to receive help from families. As you have heard me say more than a few times now that this year our parish’s focus will be our children and investing in our children. The demands of the church is such that we put in extra care in this venture to making our church a vibrant community. I ask you to prayerfully consider helping us with the Pastor’s Appeal this year so that our planned ideas could be implemented in time for our children and for our parish.

Please remember Bishop Paul Bootkoski in your prayers. Recently he has had some health issues which has been tough for him and now hampers his mobility.

27º Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario

Querida Familia!

El mes de octubre es muy especial para nosotros los católicos: recordamos este mes como el Mes del Rosario y también el Mes Pro-Vida. El USCCB también lo recuerda como el Mes de Concientización sobre la Violencia Doméstica y el Mes de Concientización sobre la Pérdida del Embarazo y la Infancia. En octubre también celebramos el Día Mundial de la Alimentación (el 20 de octubre) y el Domingo Mundial de las Misiones (último domingo de octubre). El Papa Francisco escribió: “El tema de la Jornada Mundial de las Misiones de este año — “Vayan e inviten a todos al banquete” (Mt 22,9), es un llamado a cada uno de nosotros a “apropiarse” y llevar a los demás lo que llevamos en nuestros corazones.

Esta misión siempre ha sido el sello distintivo de la Iglesia, porque “ella existe para evangelizar” (Evangelii Nuntiandi, 14). Jesús es nuestro mensaje como Jesús es la Sabiduría de Dios. Esta sabiduría toca los corazones de las personas.

La “Teología del Cuerpo” del Papa San Juan Pablo II a la luz del matrimonio como sacramento. Como sabéis, las 129 catequesis que el Santo dio entre 1979 y 1984 han revolucionado la prioridad de la Iglesia en cuanto al amor, la sexualidad y el matrimonio. El primer rasgo es el de la Ley del Don. Los esposos aprenden a amar desde la Trinidad. El segundo rasgo es el de la Soledad Original que refleja nuestra 1ª lectura de hoy. Adán comprende que él también tiene una dimensión espiritual a diferencia del resto de la creación. En la soledad reflexiona sobre la dificultad de la Ley del Don.

El tercer rasgo es la Unidad Original, donde Dios concede gracia a Adán para ejercer la Ley del Don. Ahora puede donarse libremente al “hueso de mis huesos y a la carne de mi carne”. Juan Pablo II señala que “esta es la primera vez que el hombre manifiesta alegría”. Continúa escribiendo el cuarto rasgo sobre la Desnudez Original y el quinto rasgo sobre la Vergüenza Original.

Como la Biblia comienza con el matrimonio (Adán y Eva en Génesis) y termina con el matrimonio (la fiesta de bodas del Cordero en Apocalipsis), la Iglesia entiende el papel del matrimonio en la sociedad. El Catecismo enseña que “el matrimonio es una alianza por la que un hombre y una mujer constituyen entre sí un consorcio para toda la vida” (1601). El matrimonio existe no sólo para el bien de los cónyuges y de sus hijos, sino también para el bien de la Iglesia y de la sociedad (Concilio Vaticano II). “En toda familia fundada sobre el matrimonio sacramental, Cristo y la Iglesia prolongan el testimonio divino y humano de un amor indisolublemente fiel y fecundo”. (Cardenal Marc Ouellet)

Segunda colecta especial el 27 de octubre para ayudar con los esfuerzos de socorro tras el huracán Helene: La diócesis enviará todos los ingresos a las labores de socorro. Mantengamos en oración a todos aquellos que han perdido a sus seres queridos, sus hogares y sus medios de vida y a aquellos que están respondiendo con esfuerzos de rescate y reparación. ¡Gracias por su apoyo!

Días especiales en octubre: El 9 de octubre se llevará a cabo el seminario web en línea sobre las próximas elecciones, patrocinado por las conferencias católicas de Nueva Jersey y Pensilvania. Nuestra diócesis tendrá las siguientes misas: Misa de la Herencia Hispana el 11 de octubre, la Misa y celebración de las Bodas de Plata y Oro será el 20 de octubre; y la Misa especial Azul Anual el 30 de octubre.

La Confirmación será el 7 de mayo de 2025: Tendremos la Misa de Confirmación el 7 de mayo de 2025 a las 5:00 pm en nuestra Iglesia presidida por el Reverendísimo Arthur Serratelli. En la actualidad, tenemos 42 niños en conjunto. Agradezco a nuestro Equipo de Formación en la Fe, a la Sra. Escarlen Duran y a nuestro Coordinador de Confirmación, el Diácono Rob Fisher, y a los padres por formar a nuestros niños para este importante sacramento. ¡La asistencia a la Misa dominical es la fuente de toda formación en la fe!

Llamado del Pastor: Estoy eternamente agradecido a todos ustedes por su generosidad. Seguimos recibiendo ayuda de las familias. Como me han oído decir más de una vez, este año el enfoque de nuestra parroquia serán nuestros niños y la inversión en ellos. Las exigencias de la iglesia son tales que ponemos especial cuidado en esta iniciativa para hacer de nuestra iglesia una comunidad vibrante. Les pido que consideren en oración ayudarnos con la Campaña del Pastor este año para que nuestras ideas planificadas puedan implementarse a tiempo para nuestros niños y para nuestra parroquia.

Recuerden al obispo Paul Bootkoski en sus oraciones. Recientemente ha tenido algunos problemas de salud que han sido difíciles para él y ahora dificultan su movilidad.
