Dear Family!

The elections are completed! We congratulate and wish the new administration all the very best and we pray for all our leaders. As public service demands self-giving from leaders, the readings focus on the art of self-giving. The first reading and the gospel both teach us that is not what you give but why you give. If the motive behind our self-giving is expecting some sort of a reward, we need to look into the life of Jesus more closely.

The widow in the first reading and the widow in the gospel reading made offerings of very little worth materially but were precious to God because they offered from their meager resources. They represent all the generous hearts who continue to give without expecting anything in return. Pope Francis talks about three ‘irrevocable gifts’ from God. God’s love is irrevocable in nature that ‘when God gives a gift, this gift is irrevocable.’ The Pope identifies the first gift of election. We are God’s chosen people, elected by God. The second gift is the gift of promise. God promised us of love and compassion. God promised us a life in abundance. The third is the gift of Covenant. This gift reminds us of God’s faithfulness to us.

We enjoy these gifts every day of our life. The point of reflection needs to be our response to these gifts as we receive them with open hearts. How do I perceive the election that God calls me to be a Christian every day and not just one hour on a Sunday? How do I live the promise of salvation in my life? How am I faithful to God’s covenant? By reflecting on these gifts, I am moved with spirit to give and be generous like the widows in the readings (First reading & the Gospel).

The most blessed part of the Gospel is that the widow’s generosity is witnessed by God, where others could care less or ignore. All our attempts to revitalize the church with Eucharistic Renewal, the synod, the Jubilee year 2025, etc., are focused on re-awakening of our Christian vocation and respond to God’s call in generosity. Your every attempt of being and becoming an active, participative Christian in your parish is witnessed by God and blessed by God.

Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA): (Previously known as RCIA) We started the OCIA program a few Sundays ago in our parish. We thank all the members of this program along with Deacon Larry. We pray for all the candidates and wish them well!

Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception is transferred to Monday, Dec 9th: Please remember that the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception is always a Holy Day of Obligation, even when it is transferred to another day. So, Dec 9th, Monday is a Day of Obligation.

Month of November: November is celebrated as the Black Catholic History Month. And the USCCB dedicates November as the Indigenous Peoples Month and the National Adoption Month. The Universal Church celebrates the World Youth Day on the 24th of November right around Thanksgiving Day (28th).

Jubilee Year 2025: Pope Francis has announced that the Church will celebrate a Jubilee Year in 2025, with the theme of ‘Pilgrims of Hope’. In preparation for the Jubilee Year, Pope Francis is asking Catholics to prepare by dedicating time to study the documents of the Second Vatican Council and focus on prayer. All the four constitutions of Vatican II (On Sacred Liturgy, Light to the Nations, Word of God, and the Church in the Modern World) need revisiting. Pastor’s Appeal, Thanks to the Finance Council and Faith Formation Team: I am forever grateful to all of you for your generosity. I thank all the members of the Finance Council in presenting to all of you the importance of the Appeal this year. I also thank all the children who were involved in the presentation. I ask you to prayerfully consider helping us with the Pastor’s Appeal this year so that our planned ideas could be implemented in time for our children and for our parish.

Querida Familia!

¡Las elecciones han terminado! Felicitamos y deseamos lo mejor a la nueva administración y oramos por todos nuestros líderes. Como el servicio público exige entrega de los líderes, las lecturas se centran en el arte de la entrega. La primera lectura y el evangelio nos enseñan que no es lo que damos, sino por qué damos. Si el motivo detrás de nuestra entrega es esperar algún tipo de recompensa, debemos examinar la vida de Jesús más de cerca.

La viuda de la primera lectura y la viuda del Evangelio hicieron ofrendas de muy poco valor material, pero que eran preciosas para Dios porque ofrecieron de sus escasos recursos. Representan a todos los corazones generosos que siguen dando sin esperar nada a cambio. El Papa Francisco habla de tres “regalos irrevocables” de Dios. El amor de Dios es irrevocable por naturaleza, de modo que “cuando Dios da un regalo, este regalo es irrevocable”. El Papa identifica el primer regalo de la elección. Somos el pueblo elegido de Dios, elegidos por Dios. El segundo regalo es el regalo de la promesa. Dios nos prometió amor y compasión. Dios nos prometió una vida en abundancia. El tercero es el regalo de la Alianza. Este regalo nos recuerda la fidelidad de Dios hacia nosotros.

Disfrutamos de estos dones todos los días de nuestra vida. El punto de reflexión debe ser nuestra respuesta a estos dones al recibirlos con el corazón abierto. ¿Cómo percibo la elección de que Dios me llama a ser cristiano todos los días y no solo una hora del domingo? ¿Cómo vivo la promesa de salvación en mi vida? ¿Cómo soy fiel a la alianza de Dios? Al reflexionar sobre estos dones, me siento movido con espíritu a dar y ser generoso como las viudas en las lecturas (Primera lectura y Evangelio).

La parte más bendita del Evangelio es que Dios da testimonio de la generosidad de la viuda, cuando a otros no les importa o la ignoran. Todos nuestros intentos de revitalizar la Iglesia con la Renovación Eucarística, el Sínodo, el Año Jubileo 2025, etc., se centran en despertar nuestra vocación cristiana y responder al llamado de Dios con generosidad.

Cada uno de sus intentos de ser y convertirse en un cristiano activo y participativo en su parroquia es presenciado por Dios y bendecido por Él.

Orden de Iniciación Cristiana de Adultos (OCIA): (Anteriormente conocida como R.I.C.A.) Comenzamos el programa OCIA hace unos domingos atrás en nuestra parroquia. Agradecemos a todos los miembros de este programa junto con el diácono Larry. ¡Oramos por todos los candidatos y les deseamos lo mejor!

La Solemnidad de la Inmaculada Concepción se traslada al lunes 9 de diciembre: Recordad que la Solemnidad de la Inmaculada Concepción es siempre un Día de Precepto, incluso cuando se traslada a otro día. Así pues, el lunes 9 de diciembre es un Día de Precepto.

El mes de noviembre: Noviembre se celebra como el Mes de la Historia Católica Negra. La Conferencia de Obispos Católicos de los Estados Unidos dedica noviembre como el Mes de los Pueblos Indígenas y el Mes Nacional de la Adopción. La Iglesia Universal celebra la Jornada Mundial de la Juventud el 24 de noviembre, cerca del Día de Acción de Gracias.

Año de Jubileo 2025: El Papa Francisco ha anunciado que la Iglesia celebrará un Año de Jubileo en 2025, con el tema de “Peregrinos de la esperanza”. En preparación para el Año de Jubileo, el Papa Francisco pide a los católicos que se preparen dedicando tiempo a estudiar los documentos del Concilio Vaticano II y centrándose en la oración. Es necesario revisar las cuatro constituciones del Vaticano II (Sobre la Sagrada Liturgia, Luz de las Naciones, Palabra de Dios y La Iglesia en el Mundo Moderno). Estén atentos para obtener más información sobre este tema.

Apelación del Pastor, Agradecimientos al Consejo de Finanzas y al Equipo de Formación en la Fe: Estoy eternamente agradecido a todos ustedes por su generosidad. Agradezco a todos los miembros del Consejo de Finanzas por presentarles a todos ustedes la importancia de la apelación de este año. También agradezco a todos los niños que participaron en la presentación. Les pido que consideren en oración ayudarnos con la apelación del Pastor este año para que las ideas que hemos planificado puedan implementarse a tiempo para nuestros niños y para nuestra parroquia.
