Dear Family!

Merry Christmas to all of you! Blessings on this Feast of Holy Family! The word ‘Christmas’ dates back to 12th Century. It was two words before - Christes maesse and it became Christemasse. We understand it literally meant ‘Christ’s mass’ referred to the special service to honor the birth of our Savior.

We honor God who is incarnated in our human sinful body to make it holy so that Jesus could elevate us to experience God’s image and likeness.

In the words of Pope Benedict, “Today is the great solemnity that shows the world that the Word incarnate, the Savior of mankind, is finally born. God becoming truly man is an enormous event. Something truly happens that goes beyond any evolutionary process: the fusion of man and God, the creature and the Creator. It is not the progression of another step in the evolutionary process, but the eruption of a personal action, founded on love, that from this point forward reveals to men new space and possibilities. (Joseph Ratzinger in God and the World: A Conversation with Peter Seewald, 2001, p. 197).”

We honor God first by adoring Jesus as true God who is born for us. By acknowledging God’s nearness and long for God’s nearness we express our spirit of Christmas personally as well as a community. We honor Jesus in His divinity as well as in His humanity. He is born of Virgin Mary - a sign given to all of us! - A virgin is with a child. We also honor Jesus by realizing more and more the ‘spiritual’ birth of Jesus in our hearts. We just concluded the year of St. Joseph who is a model of holiness for all of us. This holy family is the greatest source of inspiration for us.

As God shares God’s everything with us today (God’s total joy, God’s total love, God’s love self-giving is Jesus), we are inspired to open our hearts to share that God-given joy and love, to one another! Merry Christmas to all of you! “I thank my God… Each time I think of you, And when I pray for you, I pray with joy!” (Philippians 1:3)

A word of thanks to our Giving Tree Ministry, Soup Kitchen, and Pro-Life Ministry: Every year our Giving Tree ministry helps a lot of people, especially our Children through your generous donations. Thank you for all your generosity in putting smile on the faces of our children. We also thank our ever-vibrant Soup Kitchen team for their continued commitment to feeding the poor, especially at this festive time. Pro-Life ministry is also sharing the joy by inviting the poor to have special dinners for all festive moments throughout the year! Thank you for all your ministry to the poor!

Parish Financial Reports: I thank all the members of the Financial Council in carefully preparing the reports for the parish community. Please continue to spend some time with the financial reports and we are here to answer your questions to help you understand the financial reports. We will be recruiting a few new members for the council in the new year.

Jubilee Year 2025: (Opening Mass by Bishop Checchio)
Pope Francis has announced that the Church will celebrate a Jubilee Year in 2025, with the theme of ‘Pilgrims of Hope’. In preparation for the Jubilee Year, Pope Francis is asking Catholics to prepare by dedicating time to study the documents of the Second Vatican Council and focus on prayer. All the four constitutions of Vatican II (On Sacred Liturgy, Light to the Nations, Word of God, and the Church in the Modern World) need revisiting. Please stay tuned for more information on this topic. Bishop Checchio will open the 2025 Jubilee Year in the Diocese of Metuchen at the 5:00pm Mass at St. Francis Cathedral on Saturday, December 28, 2024, the Feast of The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph.

Pastor’s Appeal: I am forever grateful to all of you for your generosity. The roof repair has begun in the Mercy Hall Building. I ask you to prayerfully consider helping us with the Pastor’s Appeal this year so that our planned ideas could be implemented in time for our children and for our parish.

Sagrada Familia De Jesús, María, Y José

¡Querida familia!

¡Feliz Navidad a todos! ¡Bendiciones en esta Fiesta de la Sagrada Familia! La palabra “Navidad” se remonta al siglo XII. Antes eran dos palabras: Christes maesse y se convirtió en Christemasse. Entendemos que literalmente significaba “misa de Cristo” y se refería al servicio especial para honrar el nacimiento de nuestro Salvador. Honramos a Dios que se encarna en nuestro cuerpo humano pecador para santificarlo y que Jesús pudiera elevarnos para experimentar la imagen y semejanza de Dios.

En palabras del Papa Benedicto XVI: “Hoy es la gran solemnidad que anuncia al mundo que finalmente ha nacido el Verbo encarnado, el Salvador de la humanidad. El hecho de que Dios se haga verdaderamente hombre es un acontecimiento enorme. Sucede realmente algo que va más allá de todo proceso evolutivo: la fusión del hombre con Dios, de la criatura con el Creador. No se trata de la progresión de un paso más en el proceso evolutivo, sino de la irrupción de una acción personal, fundada en el amor, que desde este punto en adelante revela a los hombres nuevos espacios y posibilidades” (Joseph Ratzinger en Dios y el mundo: una conversación con Peter Seewald, 2001, p. 197).

Honramos a Dios primero al adorar a Jesús como Dios verdadero que nació por nosotros. Al reconocer la cercanía de Dios y anhelar su cercanía, expresamos nuestro espíritu de Navidad a nivel personal y comunitario. Honramos a Jesús en su divinidad y en su humanidad. Nació de la Virgen María, ¡una señal dada a todos nosotros! Una virgen está con un niño. También honramos a Jesús al darnos cuenta cada vez más del nacimiento “espiritual” de Jesús en nuestros corazones. Acabamos de concluir el año de San José, que es un modelo de santidad para todos nosotros. Esta sagrada familia es la mayor fuente de inspiración para nosotros.

Mientras Dios comparte hoy con nosotros todo lo que es de Dios (el gozo total de Dios, el amor total de Dios, el amor de Dios que se entrega a sí mismo en Jesús), ¡nos sentimos inspirados a abrir nuestros corazones para compartir el gozo y el amor que Dios nos ha dado unos a otros! ¡Feliz Navidad a todos! “Doy gracias a mi Dios… Cada vez que pienso en ustedes, y cuando oro por ustedes, oro con gozo” (Filipenses 1:3).

Unas palabras de agradecimiento a nuestro ministerio “Giving Tree”, “Soup Kitchen” y “Pro-Life Ministry”: Cada año, nuestro ministerio “Giving Tree” ayuda a mucha gente, especialmente a nuestros niños, a través de sus generosas donaciones. Gracias por toda su generosidad al poner una sonrisa en los rostros de nuestros niños. También agradecemos a nuestro siempre vibrante equipo de “Soup Kitchen” por su continuo compromiso de alimentar a los pobres, especialmente en esta época festiva. ¡El ministerio “Pro-Life” también comparte la alegría al invitar a los pobres a tener cenas especiales en todos los momentos festivos durante todo el año! ¡Gracias por todo su ministerio a los pobres!

Informes financieros de la parroquia: Agradezco a todos los miembros del Consejo Financiero por preparar cuidadosamente los informes para la comunidad parroquial. Continúe dedicando algo de tiempo a las finanzas y estamos aquí para responder sus preguntas y ayudarlos a comprenderlas. Reclutaremos algunos miembros nuevos para el consejo en el nuevo año.

Año Jubilar 2025: (Misa de apertura a cargo del Obispo Checchio)
El Papa Francisco ha anunciado que la Iglesia celebrará un Año Jubilar en 2025, con el tema "Peregrinos de esperanza". En preparación para el Año Jubilar, el Papa Francisco pide a los católicos que se preparen dedicando tiempo a estudiar los documentos del Concilio Vaticano II y a centrarse en la oración. Las cuatro constituciones del Vaticano II (Sobre la Sagrada Liturgia, Luz a las Naciones, Palabra de Dios y la Iglesia en el Mundo Moderno) necesitan ser revisadas. Estén atentos para obtener más información sobre este tema. El Obispo Checchio abrirá el Año Jubilar 2025 en la Diócesis de Metuchen en la Misa de las 5:00pm en la Catedral de San Francisco el sábado 28 de diciembre de 2024, la Fiesta de la Sagrada Familia de Jesús, María y José.

Apelación del Pastor: Estoy eternamente agradecido a todos ustedes por su generosidad. La reparación del techo ha comenzado en el edificio Mercy Hall. Les pido que consideren en oración ayudarnos con la Campaña del Pastor este año para que nuestras ideas planificadas puedan implementarse a tiempo para nuestros hijos y para nuestra parroquia.
