The Epiphany of the Lord

Dear Family!

As the Spirit of Christmas continues to fill our minds and hearts, we celebrate this beautiful feast of Epiphany. The Catechism teaches us that “The Epiphany is the manifestation of Jesus as Messiah of Israel, Son of God and Savior of the world” (CCC528). The Catechism also teaches that Epiphany also celebrates two other major events in which Jesus’s messianic identity is revealed: Jesus’ baptism and Jesus at the wedding in Cana.

We encounter the advent of a star in the book of Numbers (24:17-19). The most interesting part is in verse 18 ‘Edom shall be dispossessed’. Of course, we are talking about the King rising in Israel. Herod must have known this prophesy as he was not from the line of King David, but actually an ‘Idumaen’ - This is how Herod is connected to Edom; He was an Edomite. The Star is in a way a warning sign for Herod, but a Gospel of Joy to the entire world. Epiphany wishes to all of you!

The Magi reminded us of the community and diversity aspects of the powerful experience of the revelation of God. The universal and catholic nature of the church reflects this powerful Epiphany everyday through the Sacrament of Eucharist. As Epiphany teaches us where to look for Jesus, the King of kings, Lord of lords (in the most humble and poorest), it also teaches us where not to look for Jesus - Herod. Herod not only symbolizes our envy, jealousy, and anger, but also the “close yet very far” approach to our spiritual life and Christian Life. We are all in need of the Star!

A word of thanks to all who made our Christmas celebrations so meaningful for us; Fr. Fredy, The Deacons, the Office, the Servers, The Choir, the Knights, the Cleaning crews, those who set up the Flowers and decorations, the generous sharing of the Christmas Giving Tree gifts & the team, the Soup Kitchen and the Hispanic Community for all the help. Thank you all! As we walk into 2025, there are many developmental plans being planned. I request your prayers for me and for the growth of our parish.

A word of thanks to our Giving Tree Ministry, Soup Kitchen, and the Pro-Life Ministry: Every year our Giving Tree ministry helps a lot of people, especially our Children, through your generous donations. Thank you for all your generosity in putting smiles on the faces of our children. We also thank our ever-vibrant Soup Kitchen team for their continued commitment to feeding the poor, especially at this festive time. The Pro-Life ministry is also sharing the joy by inviting the poor to have special dinners for all festive moments throughout the year! Thank you for all your ministry to the poor!

Parish Financial Reports: I thank all the members of the Financial Council in carefully preparing the reports for the parish community. Please continue to spend some time with the financial reports and we are here to answer your questions to help you understand the financial reports. We will be recruiting a few new members for the council in the new year.

Jubilee Year 2025: (Opening Mass by Bishop Checchio)
Pope Francis has announced that the Church will celebrate a Jubilee Year in 2025, with the theme of ‘Pilgrims of Hope’. In preparation for the Jubilee Year, Pope Francis is asking Catholics to prepare by dedicating time to study the documents of the Second Vatican Council and focus on prayer. All the four constitutions of Vatican II (On Sacred Liturgy, Light to the Nations, Word of God, and the Church in the Modern World) need revisiting. Please stay tuned for more information on this topic. Bishop Checchio has opened the 2025 Jubilee Year in the Diocese of Metuchen last Saturday, December 28, 2024, the Feast of The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph.

Pastor’s Appeal: I am forever grateful to all of you for your generosity. The roof repair has begun in the Mercy Hall Building. I ask you to prayerfully consider helping us with the Pastor’s Appeal this year so that our planned ideas could be implemented in time for our children and for our parish.

Epifanía Del Señor

¡Querida familia!

Mientras el Espíritu de Navidad continúa llenando nuestros pensamientos y corazones, celebramos esta hermosa fiesta de la Epifanía. El Catecismo nos enseña que “la Epifanía es la manifestación de Jesús como Mesías de Israel, Hijo de Dios y Salvador del mundo” (CIC 528). El Catecismo también enseña que la Epifanía celebra otros dos eventos importantes en los que se revela la identidad mesiánica de Jesús: el bautismo de Jesús y Jesús en las bodas de Caná.

En el libro de Números (24:17-19) encontramos la aparición de una estrella. La parte más interesante está en el versículo 18: “Edom será desposeída”. Por supuesto, estamos hablando del Rey que se levanta en Israel. Herodes debe haber conocido esta profecía, ya que no era de la línea del rey David, sino en realidad un “idumeo”. Así es como Herodes está conectado con Edom: era un edomita. La estrella es, en cierto modo, una señal de advertencia para Herodes, pero un Evangelio de alegría para todo el mundo. ¡Les deseo una feliz Epifanía a todos ustedes!

Los Reyes Magos nos recordaron los aspectos comunitarios y de diversidad de la poderosa experiencia de la revelación de Dios. La naturaleza universal y católica de la iglesia refleja esta poderosa Epifanía todos los días a través del Sacramento de la Eucaristía. Así como la Epifanía nos enseña dónde buscar a Jesús, el Rey de reyes, Señor de señores (en los más humildes y pobres), también nos enseña dónde no buscar a Jesús: Herodes.

Herodes no solo simboliza nuestra envidia, celos e ira, sino también el enfoque “cercano pero muy lejano” de nuestra vida espiritual y de la vida cristiana. ¡Todos necesitamos la Estrella!

Una palabra de agradecimiento a todos los que hicieron que nuestras celebraciones navideñas fueran tan significativas para nosotros: el Padre Fredy, los diáconos, el personal de la oficina, los servidores, el coro, los caballeros de colon, los equipos de limpieza, los que colocaron las flores y las decoraciones, los generosos obsequios del árbol de regalos de Navidad y el equipo, el comedor de beneficencia y la comunidad hispana por toda la ayuda.

¡Gracias a todos! A medida que avanzamos hacia el año 2025, se están planificando muchos planes de desarrollo. Solicito sus oraciones por mí y por el crecimiento de nuestra parroquia .

Unas palabras de agradecimiento a nuestro ministerio “Giving Tree”, “Soup Kitchen”, y “Pro-Life Ministry”: Cada año, nuestro ministerio “Giving Tree” ayuda a mucha gente, especialmente a nuestros niños, a través de sus generosas donaciones. Gracias por toda su generosidad al poner una sonrisa en los rostros de nuestros niños. También agradecemos a nuestro siempre vibrante equipo de “Soup Kitchen” por su continuo compromiso de alimentar a los pobres, especialmente en esta época festiva. ¡El ministerio “Pro-Life” también comparte la alegría al invitar a los pobres a tener cenas especiales en todos los momentos festivos durante todo el año! ¡Gracias por todo su ministerio a los pobres!

Informes financieros de la parroquia: Agradezco a todos los miembros del Consejo Financiero por preparar cuidadosamente los informes para la comunidad parroquial. Continúe dedicando algo de tiempo a las finanzas y estamos aquí para responder sus preguntas y ayudarlos a comprenderlas. Reclutaremos algunos miembros nuevos para el consejo en el nuevo año.

Año Jubilar 2025: (Misa de apertura a cargo del Obispo Checchio)
El Papa Francisco ha anunciado que la Iglesia celebrará un Año Jubilar en 2025, con el tema de “Peregrinos de la esperanza”. En preparación para el Año Jubilar, el Papa Francisco pide a los católicos que se preparen dedicando tiempo a estudiar los documentos del Concilio Vaticano II y se centren en la oración. Es necesario revisar las cuatro constituciones del Vaticano II (Sobre la Sagrada Liturgia, Luz de las Naciones, Palabra de Dios y La Iglesia en el Mundo Moderno). Estén atentos para obtener más información sobre este tema. El obispo Checchio inauguró el Año Jubilar 2025 en la diócesis de Metuchen el sábado pasado, 28 de diciembre de 2024, fiesta de la Sagrada Familia de Jesús, María y José.

Apelación del Pastor: Estoy eternamente agradecido a todos ustedes por su generosidad. La reparación del techo ha comenzado en el edificio Mercy Hall. Les pido que consideren en oración ayudarnos con la Campaña del Pastor este año para que nuestras ideas planificadas puedan implementarse a tiempo para nuestros hijos y para nuestra parroquia.
