Dear Family!

As we come to the close of the first part of the Season of the Ordinary Time after the 8th Sunday (next weekend) and begin the Season of Lent on Ash Wednesday (March 5th) the Gospel especially continues to focus on ‘Discipline of a Christian’ in the Sermon on the Plain (Luke’s Gospel). This Sunday the emphasis is on ‘speech’. The Christian Discipline requires that our speech be one of kindness, compassion, and forgiveness as opposed to divisive and judgmental.

We produce good or bad in the store of our hearts; good person produces good but evil person produces evil. Most often we blame the speech as if the good or evil is produced by our words or actions. The good or evil is revealed by our words and actions. The Catechism beautifully teaches the truths of our Moral Conscience in CCC 1776.

“Deep within his conscience man discovers a law which he has not laid upon himself but which he must obey. Its voice, ever calling him to love and to do what is good and to avoid evil, sounds in his heart at the right moment. . . . For man has in his heart a law inscribed by God. . . . His conscience is man's most secret core and his sanctuary. There he is alone with God whose voice echoes in his depths”

The words of Saint John Paul II is so relevant as we reflect on the readings this Sunday: “The only path to peace is forgiveness. Forgiveness given and received enables a new kind of relationship among people, breaking the spiral of hatred and revenge and shattering the chains of evil which bind the hearts of those in conflict with one another. For nations in search of reconciliation and for those who hope for peaceful co-existence between individuals and peoples, there is no other way than this: forgiveness given and received.”

Diocesan programs for parishes in Feb and Mar: The Jubilee Mass Series for Hispanic Youth and Young Adults (the last Friday of each month), the Parish Ministry for Seniors Roundtable (March 1), the Rite of Election (March 9), the Christian Anthropology Workshop (March 20) and the Choices Matter Conference (March 29).

Jubilee Year 2025: (Jubilees in February 2025)
In the month of February, there are three important Jubilees: the Jubilee of Armed Forces, Police, & Security and the Jubilee for Artists, these two took place earlier this month; and from the 21st to 23rd we have the Jubilee of the Deacons. We are grateful for all our deacons Enock, Larry, Rob, and Francisco, and the Deacon Candidates Rob and Oscar. Our bishop ordained Jan Magcawas to the order of Deacons yesterday at St. Joseph’s Church, North Plainfield - a great day to honor our deacons! Coming up in March we have the following Jubilees: World of Volunteering (8-9), On the 28th we have a “24 Hours for the Lord” - a special day of prayer for the Jubilee and Jubilee of Missionaries of Mercy (28-30).

2025 Lenten Obligation: March 5th Ash Wednesday and April 18th Good Friday are days of fast and abstinence. The other Fridays of March 7, 14, 21, 28, April 4, & 11 are days of abstinence. Fasting applies to only Catholics between ages 18 and 59. The obligation of abstinence applies to all Catholics who have reached the age of 14.

Pastor’s Appeal: I am forever grateful to all of you for your generosity. The roof repair has begun in the Mercy Hall Building. As promised we have completed initial repairs to the roof. We will restart the permanent renovation in the spring. In the meantime, we will be acquiring all the restroom and flooring materials for the 3rd floor. I ask you to prayerfully consider helping us with the Pastor’s Appeal this year so that our planned ideas could be implemented in time for our children and for our parish.

7º Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario

¡Querida familia!

Al llegar al final de la primera parte del Tiempo Ordinario después del octavo domingo (el próximo fin de semana) y comenzar el Tiempo de Cuaresma el Miércoles de Ceniza (5 de marzo), el Evangelio continúa centrándose especialmente en la "Disciplina del cristiano" en el Sermón de la Llanura (Evangelio de Lucas). Este domingo, el énfasis está en el "habla". La Disciplina Cristiana requiere que nuestra palabra sea de bondad, compasión y perdón en lugar de divisiva y crítica.

Producimos el bien o el mal en el almacén de nuestros corazones; la buena persona produce el bien, pero la mala persona produce el mal. Muy a menudo culpamos al lenguaje como si el bien o el mal fuera producido por nuestras palabras o acciones. El bien o el mal se revela por nuestras palabras y acciones. El Catecismo enseña hermosamente las verdades de nuestra Conciencia Moral en el CIC 1776.

“En lo más profundo de su conciencia, el hombre descubre una ley que no se ha impuesto a sí mismo, pero a la que debe obedecer. Su voz, que siempre lo llama a amar y a hacer el bien y a evitar el mal, resuena en su corazón en el momento oportuno... Porque el hombre tiene en su corazón una ley inscrita por Dios... Su conciencia es el núcleo más secreto del hombre y su santuario. Allí está solo con Dios, cuya voz resuena en su interior”

Las palabras de San Juan Pablo II son muy pertinentes cuando reflexionamos sobre las lecturas de este domingo: “El único camino hacia la paz es el perdón. El perdón dado y recibido permite un nuevo tipo de relación entre las personas, rompiendo la espiral de odio y venganza y rompiendo las cadenas del mal que atan los corazones de quienes están en conflicto entre sí. Para las naciones que buscan la reconciliación y para quienes esperan una coexistencia pacífica entre las personas y los pueblos, no hay otro camino que éste: el perdón dado y recibido”.

Programas diocesanos para las parroquias en febrero y marzo: La Serie de misas del Jubileo para jóvenes y adultos jóvenes hispanos (último viernes de cada mes), Mesa redonda sobre el ministerio parroquial para personas de la tercera edad (1 de marzo), rito de elección (9 de marzo), taller de antropología cristiana (20 de marzo) y conferencia: “Choices Matter” (29 de marzo).

Año Jubilar 2025: (Jubileos en febrero de 2025)
En el mes de febrero, hay tres Jubileos importantes: el Jubileo de las Fuerzas Armadas, la Policía y la Seguridad y el Jubileo de los Artistas, estos dos tuvieron lugar a principios de este mes, y del 21 al 23 tenemos el Jubileo de los Diáconos. Estamos agradecidos por todos nuestros diáconos Enock, Larry, Rob y Francisco y los candidatos a diáconos Rob y Oscar. Nuestro obispo ordenó a Jan Magcawas a la orden de diáconos ayer en la iglesia de San José, North Plainfield, ¡un gran día para honrar a nuestros diáconos!

En marzo, tenemos los siguientes Jubileos: Mundo del Voluntariado (8-9), El 28 tenemos "24 horas para el Señor", un día especial de oración por el Jubileo y el Jubileo de los Misioneros de la Misericordia (28- 30).

Obligación cuaresmal de 2025: El 5 de marzo, Miércoles de Ceniza y el 18 de abril, Viernes Santo, son días de ayuno y abstinencia. Los demás viernes, el 7, 14, 21 y 28 de marzo, el 4 y 11 de abril, son días de abstinencia. El ayuno se aplica solo a los católicos de entre 18 y 59 años. La obligación de abstinencia se aplica a todos los católicos que hayan cumplido 14 años.

Apelación del Pastor: Estoy eternamente agradecido a todos ustedes por su generosidad. La reparación del techo ha comenzado en el edificio Mercy Hall. Como prometimos, hemos completado las reparaciones iniciales del techo. Reiniciaremos la renovación permanente en la primavera. Mientras tanto, adquiriremos todos los materiales para los baños y el piso del tercer piso. Les pido que consideren en oración ayudarnos con la Campaña del Pastor este año para que nuestras ideas planificadas puedan implementarse a tiempo para nuestros niños y para nuestra parroquia.
