Dear Family!

The Catechism of the Catholic Church (857) teaches us, “The Church is apostolic because she is founded on the apostles, in three ways:

- she was and remains built on "the foundation of the Apostles," the witnesses chosen and sent on mission by Christ himself;

- with the help of the Spirit dwelling in her, the Church keeps and hands on the teaching, the "good deposit," the salutary words she has heard from the apostles;

- she continues to be taught, sanctified, and guided by the apostles until Christ's return, through their successors in pastoral office: the college of bishops, "assisted by priests, in union with the successor of Peter, the Church's supreme pastor”.

There were many studies on the personality of Peter so far. One thing that is very central to our readings today is the life of Peter before and after Resurrection. During Advent we focus on Jesus ’ coming thus prepare the way. During Lent we focus on the repentance. What exactly do we do during Easter Season? The best lesson is found in the person of Peter. As there are many changes in the resurrected body of Jesus, so also there are many changes in the lives of the Apostles and Peter being the team leader. Their whole attitude to life, their speech and action show a tremendous energy as if their bodies were resurrected. God didn’t just raise Jesus from the dead; God also raised the dead hopes, dead faiths and dead spiritualities of the friends of Jesus.

Parish First Communion and Confirmation Masses: On the day of Parish Feast (May 3rd is the Feast of the Apostles Philip and James) our children will receive their first holy communion at 11am Mass. Since it is a large class we have planned two Saturday services ( May 3rd and May 10th at 11am Mass). Our Confirmation mass will be on Wednesday, May 7th at 5pm. These are our children, so everyone is invited to come for these celebrations and pray for them and their families.

May 2nd - A day of Prayer for Pope Francis & the Conclave: May 2nd is first Friday in May. We will have a special prayer service and Mass for Pope Francis. The holy hour will start at 6pm and at 7pm there will be a special mass praying for the repose of the soul of Pope Francis. All are welcome! The Conclave is scheduled on May 7th. The last Conclave took just 28 hours to elect Pope Francis so we will have Special intentions for Conclave on May 8th and May 9th. There will also be a Special Mass after the election of Pope. Please come and participate in all these Masses.

Diocesan Jubilee Pilgrimage to the National Shrine in Washington, DC, (Sept. 20), the Jubilee Mass Series for Hispanic Youth and Young Adults (last Friday of each month). and the Multicultural Fair (May 10).

150th Anniversary of Catholic Education in Phillipsburg
As the anniversary approaches near, there are preliminary preparations that need to happen. We need to form a leadership team to plan and execute. We are looking for volunteers to be part of the leadership team. All are welcome!

Jubilee Year 2025: (Jubilees in May 2025)
In May we have five Jubilees: May 1-4 Jubilee of Workers; 4-5 Jubilee of Entrepreneurs; 10-11 Jubilee of Bands & Popular Music; 12-14 Jubilee of the Eastern Churches; 16-17 Jubilee of Confraternities.

Parish Survey on Mass Cancellation: The Parish Pastoral Council, after carefully looking at the survey and statistics, have consulted with me regarding the cancellation of 7am. The majority (90+ families out of 127) would prefer to keep the 9am mass as it concerns the children. It will go into effect on January 1, 2026.

Pastor’s Appeal: I am forever grateful to all of you for your generosity. The roof repair has begun in the Mercy Hall Building. As promised we have completed initial repairs to the roof. We will restart the permanent renovation in the spring. In the meantime, we will be acquiring all the restroom and flooring materials for the 3rd floor. I ask you to prayerfully consider helping us with the Pastor’s Appeal this year so that our planned ideas could be implemented in time for our children and for our parish.

¡Querida familia!

El Catecismo de la Iglesia Católica (857) nos enseña: “La Iglesia es apostólica porque está fundada sobre los apóstoles, de tres maneras:

- Fue y sigue edificada sobre el fundamento de los Apóstoles, los testigos elegidos y enviados a la misión por Cristo mismo;

- Con la ayuda del Espíritu que habita en ella, la Iglesia conserva y transmite la enseñanza, el buen depósito, las palabras de salvación que escuchó de los apóstoles;

- Sigue siendo enseñada, santificada y guiada por los apóstoles hasta el regreso de Cristo, a través de sus sucesores en el oficio pastoral: el colegio de obispos, "ayudados por los presbíteros, en unión con el sucesor de Pedro, el pastor supremo de la Iglesia".

Hasta ahora se han realizado numerosos estudios sobre la personalidad de Pedro. Un tema central en nuestras lecturas de hoy es su vida antes y después de la Resurrección. Durante el Adviento nos centramos en la venida de Jesús, preparando así el camino. Durante la Cuaresma, nos centramos en el arrepentimiento. ¿Qué hacemos exactamente durante el Tiempo de Pascua? La mejor lección se encuentra en la persona de Pedro. Así como se producen muchos cambios en el cuerpo resucitado de Jesús, también se producen muchos cambios en la vida de los apóstoles, y Pedro, como líder del grupo, es el líder. Toda su actitud ante la vida, sus palabras y acciones muestran una energía tremenda, como si sus cuerpos hubieran resucitado. Dios no solo resucitó a Jesús de entre los muertos; también resucitó las esperanzas, las creencias y las espiritualidades muertas de los amigos de Jesús.

Misas de Primera Comunión y Confirmación en la Parroquia: Es tradición que el día de la festividad parroquial (el 3 de mayo es la festividad de los apóstoles Felipe y Santiago), nuestros niños reciban su primera comunión en la misa de las 11:00 am. Dado que la clase es numerosa, hemos planeado dos servicios los sábados (el 3 y el 10 de mayo, en misas de las 11:00 am). Nuestra misa de Confirmación será el miércoles 7 de mayo a las 5:00 pm. Estos son nuestros niños, por lo que todos están invitados a venir a estas celebraciones y orar por ellos y sus familias.

2 de mayo - Día de oración por el Papa Francisco y el Cónclave: El 2 de mayo es el primer viernes de mayo. Tendremos un servicio de oración y una misa especial por el Papa Francisco. La hora santa comenzará a las 18:00 h y a las 19:00 h habrá una misa especial para orar por el descanso eterno del Papa Francisco. ¡Bienvenidos todos! El Cónclave está programado para el 7 de mayo. El último Cónclave solo tardó 28 horas en elegir al Papa Francisco, por lo que tendremos intenciones especiales para el Cónclave los días 8 y 9 de mayo. También habrá una misa especial después de la elección del Papa. Les invitamos a participar en todas estas misas.

Peregrinación Jubilar Diocesana al Santuario Nacional en Washington, DC, (20 de septiembre), la Serie de Misas Jubilar para Jóvenes y Adultos Jóvenes Hispanos (último viernes de cada mes) y la Feria Multicultural (10 de mayo).

150.º Aniversario de la Educación Católica en Phillipsburg
A medida que se acerca el aniversario, es necesario realizar preparativos preliminares. Necesitamos formar un equipo de liderazgo para planificar y ejecutar. Buscamos voluntarios para formar parte del equipo de liderazgo. ¡Todos son bienvenidos!

En mayo tenemos cinco Jubileos: del 1 al 4 de mayo Jubileo de los Trabajadores; del 4 al 5 Jubileo de los Empresarios; del 10 al 11 Jubileo de las Bandas y de la Música Popular; del 12 al 14 Jubileo de las Iglesias Orientales; del 16 al 17 Jubileo de las Cofradías.

Encuesta Parroquial sobre la Cancelación de Misas: El Consejo Pastoral Parroquial, tras analizar detenidamente la encuesta y las estadísticas, me ha consultado sobre la cancelación de la misa de las 7:00 am. La mayoría (más de 90 familias de 127) preferiría mantener la misa de las 9:00 am por el bien de los niños. Entrará en vigor el 1 de enero de 2026.

Apelación del Pastor: Les estaré eternamente agradecido por su generosidad. Ya comenzó la reparación del techo del edificio Mercy Hall. Como prometimos, hemos completado las reparaciones iniciales.
