Dear Family!

Pentecost is traditionally a Jewish Feast. It is one of the three pilgrimage feasts in the Jewish Calendar (Passover and Tabernacles are the other two). The scriptures taught the people to travel to Jerusalem for these feasts; thus, they were called pilgrimage feasts. (Ex 23:14-17). The Feast of Pentecost is celebrated on the 50th day after the Passover; it was also called the Feast of the First Fruits as people harvested at this time and thank God for their first fruits.

First fruits belong to God. It reminds us of the re- creation of the people who are filled with the Holy Spirit. Active participation in the life of parish is indispensable to our faith and ministry as we are known to be People of the Spirit rather than people of season. Pope Francis advised the people not to be “a part of a Christian, at certain moments, in certain circumstances, in certain choices rather be a Christian at all times.

If you are filled with the Holy Spirit, you will be Christian at all times.” When we strive to be Christian at all times we understand better the nature of the Church. Church is universal with many cultures, traditions and languages. We are blessed to have our Hispanic families in our parish. Catechism teaches us, “The word "catholic" means "universal," in the sense of "according to the totality" or "in keeping with the whole." The Church is catholic in a double sense: First, the Church is catholic because Christ is present in her. "Where there is Christ Jesus, there is the Catholic Church.” …..The Church was, in this fundamental sense, catholic on the day of Pentecost and will always be so until the day of the Parousia. (CCC 830)

Let us recall the words of Pope Francis last year, “The first advice offered by the Holy Spirit is, “Live in the present”. The present, not the past or the future. The Paraclete affirms the primacy of today, against the temptation to let ourselves be paralyzed by rancor or memories of the past, or by uncertainty or fear about the future. The Spirit reminds us of the grace of the present moment. There is no better time for us: now, here and now, is the one and only time to do good, to make our life a gift. Let us live in the present!”

Multicultural Day at our Parish: The effect of Pentecost brought joy to all people. We the people of God celebrate this memorable day this Sunday. Please come and celebrate!

8th Grade Graduation: We thank God for God’s continued presence in all our ministry, especially the ministry to our children. The 8th Grade Graduation on Monday was wonderful, thanks to parents, school administration and staff for all their committed service to Catholic education. Special word to thanks to all the Grandparents for being in the lives of our children. The PreK and Kindergarten also had their own creative graduations on Tuesday.

Transfer of priest in our Parish: There were a quite a few transfers this year in our diocese. Our Bishop has transferred Father Fredy Triana Beltran from our parish to minister at Holy Family Parish, New Brunswick effective August 1st. We will be welcoming Father Alexander A. Carles, the Parochial vicar from Mary, Mother of God, Hillsborough to our parish on August 1st. Please pray for these two priests in their transition and thank them for their ministry.

150th Anniversary of Catholic Education in Phillipsburg
As the anniversary approaches near, there are preliminary preparations that need to happen. We need to form a leadership team to plan and execute. We are looking for volunteers to be part of the leadership team. All are welcome!

Jubilee Year 2025: (Jubilees in June)
In June we have six Jubilees: On the 9th we have the Jubilee of the Holy See, 14th & 15th of June we have the Jubilee of Sports, 20th - 22nd we have the Jubilee of Governments. Since we are so close to the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart, we have Jubilee of Seminarians (June 23 & 24), Jubilee of Bishops (June 25), Jubilee of Priests (June 25-27) and we complete the month of June with the Jubilee of Youth (From June 28th to July 3rd).

Domingo De Pentecostés

¡Querida familia!

Pentecostés es tradicionalmente una fiesta judía. Es una de las tres fiestas de peregrinación del calendario judío (las otras dos son la Pascua y los Tabernáculos). Las Escrituras enseñaban al pueblo a viajar a Jerusalén para estas fiestas; por eso se les llamaba fiestas de peregrinación (Éxodo 23:14-17). La fiesta de Pentecostés se celebra el día 50 después de la Pascua; también se le llamaba la Fiesta de las Primicias, ya que en ese momento se cosechaba y se agradecía a Dios por sus primicias.

Las primicias pertenecen a Dios. Nos recuerdan la recreación del pueblo lleno del Espíritu Santo. La participación activa en la vida parroquial es indispensable para nuestra fe y ministerio, pues se nos conoce como Pueblo del Espíritu, no como Pueblo de tiempo. El Papa Francisco aconsejó a los feligreses no ser «cristianos en ciertos momentos, en ciertas circunstancias, en ciertas decisiones, sino cristianos en todo momento. Si estás lleno del Espíritu Santo, serás cristiano en todo momento».

Cuando nos esforzamos por ser cristianos en todo momento, comprendemos mejor la naturaleza de la Iglesia. La Iglesia es universal, con múltiples culturas, tradiciones e idiomas. Tenemos la bendición de contar con familias hispanas en nuestra parroquia. El Catecismo nos enseña: «La palabra «católico» significa «universal», en el sentido de «según la totalidad» o «en consonancia con el todo». La Iglesia es católica en un doble sentido: primero, porque Cristo está presente en ella. «Donde está Cristo Jesús, allí está la Iglesia católica». … La Iglesia fue, en este sentido fundamental, católica el día de Pentecostés y lo será siempre hasta el día de la Parusía. (CIC 830)

Recordemos las palabras del Papa Francisco del año pasado: «El primer consejo que nos ofrece el Espíritu Santo es: “Vivan el presente”. El presente, no el pasado ni el futuro. El Paráclito afirma la primacía del hoy, contra la tentación de dejarnos paralizar por el rencor o los recuerdos del pasado, o por la incertidumbre o el miedo al futuro. El Espíritu nos recuerda la gracia del momento presente. No hay mejor momento para nosotros: ahora, aquí y ahora, es el único momento para hacer el bien, para hacer de nuestra vida un don. ¡Vivamos el presente!».

Día Multicultural en nuestra Parroquia: El efecto de Pentecostés trajo alegría a todos. Nosotros, el pueblo de Dios, celebramos este día memorable este domingo. ¡Vengan a celebrar!

Graduación de 8.º grado: Agradecemos a Dios por su continua presencia en todo nuestro ministerio, especialmente en el de nuestros niños. La graduación de 8.º grado, celebrada el lunes, fue maravillosa, gracias a los padres, la administración y el personal de la escuela por su dedicación a la educación católica. Un agradecimiento especial a todos los abuelos por estar presentes en la vida de nuestros niños. Los alumnos de Prekínder y Kínder también tuvieron sus propias graduaciones creativas el martes.

Traslado de sacerdote en nuestra parroquia: Este año hubo varios traslados en nuestra diócesis. Nuestro obispo trasladó al padre Fredy Triana Beltrán de nuestra parroquia a la parroquia de la Sagrada Familia en Nuevo Brunswick, a partir del 1 de agosto. El 1 de agosto daremos la bienvenida al padre Alexander A. Carles, vicario parroquial de María, Madre de Dios, en Hillsborough. Les pedimos que oren por estos dos sacerdotes en su transición y les agradezcan su ministerio.

150.º Aniversario de la Educación Católica en Phillipsburg
A medida que se acerca el aniversario, es necesario realizar preparativos preliminares. Necesitamos formar un equipo de liderazgo para planificar y ejecutar. Buscamos voluntarios para formar parte del equipo de liderazgo. ¡Todos son bienvenidos!

Año Jubilar 2025: (Jubileos en junio) En junio celebramos seis Jubileos: El 9, el Jubileo de la Santa Sede; el 14 y 15 de junio, el Jubileo del Deporte; y del 20 al 22, el Jubileo de los Gobiernos. Por la proximidad de la Solemnidad del Sagrado Corazón, celebramos el Jubileo de los Seminaristas (23 y 24 de junio), el Jubileo de los Obispos (25 de junio), el Jubileo de los Sacerdotes (25-27 de junio) y, para completar el mes de junio, el Jubileo de la Juventud (del 28 de junio al 3 de julio).
