Dear Family!

We are blessed indeed to celebrate the Solemnity of the Ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ on this Sunday. At one time it was celebrated on the Thursday before the 7th Sunday in Easter. It has been permanently moved to the 7th Sunday of Easter by our Bishop.

The Catechism teaches us, “Only the one who "came from the Father" can return to the Father: Christ Jesus. "No one has ascended into heaven but he who descended from heaven, the Son of man.”

Left to its own natural powers humanity does not have access to the "Father's house", to God's life and happiness. Only Christ can open to man such access that we, his members, might have confidence that we too shall go where he, our Head and our Source, has preceded us.”

The end of Luke’s Gospel contains his first account of the Ascension, which is presented here as occurring on Easter Sunday. The risen Lord shows the Apostles how the Scriptures had foretold that the Christ would suffer and rise again. Jesus also gives them a mission (the proclamation of repentance and forgiveness of sins) and promises to send the Holy Spirit to them. They return in joy to Jerusalem to await the Spirit.

Ascension of Jesus marks the end of his journey on earth and signals the beginning of a new era. The mission of the Church begins under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Luke shows that “the time of Israel” has yielded to “the time of Christ.” Now, “the time of Christ” is to yield to “the time of the Church.” It does not mean Jesus is absent, rather, Jesus is present to us through the Holy Spirit, in and through the liturgical celebrations of our Church, and wherever two or three are gathered in his name. On this glorious Solemnity of the Ascension, I wish you all God’s blessings!

Jubilee of Families, Grandparents and Elderly: In anticipation of the Jubilee of Families, Children, Grandparents and the Elderly, set within a yearlong celebration of hope, we remember the words of Pope Francis to families in his exhortation, Amoris Laetitia (AL): “The incarnation of the Word in a human family, in Nazareth, by its very newness changed the history of the world. We need to enter into the mystery of Jesus’ birth, into that “yes” given by Mary to the message of the angel, when the Word was conceived in her womb, as well as the “yes” of Joseph, who gave a name to Jesus and watched over Mary. (Amoris Laetitia, no. 65). June 1st after the 11am Mass, let us get together at Mercy Hall for the celebration. All are invited.

Diocesan Jubilee Pilgrimage to the National Shrine in Washington, DC, (Sept. 20)

Laudato Si celebrates 10th Anniversary: The Catholic Church marks the 10th anniversary of Laudato Si - On Care for Our Common Home by Pope Francis on May 24th and reflects on Pope Francis’ legacy of calling for ecological conversion. His teachings on integral ecology, social justice and climate action deepened Catholic social thought and broadened the global dialogue about the environment. 150th Anniversary of Catholic Education in Phillipsburg
As the anniversary approaches near, there are preliminary preparations that need to happen. We need to form a leadership team to plan and execute. We are looking for volunteers to be part of the leadership team. All are welcome!

Jubilee Year 2025: (Jubilees in June)
In June we have six Jubilees: Starting from May 30th to June 1st we have the Jubilee of Families, Grandparents and the Elderly. On the 7th & 8th we will celebrate the Jubilee of Ecclesial Movements, Associates and New Communities. On the 9th we have the Jubilee of the Holy See, 14th & 15th of June we have the Jubilee of Sports, 20th to 22nd we have the Jubilee of Governments. Since we are so close to the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart, we have Jubilee of Seminarians (June 23rd & 24th), Jubilee of Bishops (June 25th), Jubilee of Priests (June 25th-27th) and we complete the month of June with the Jubilee of Youth (From June 28th to July 3rd)

Ascensión Del Señor

¡Querida familia!

Tenemos la gran bendición de celebrar la Solemnidad de la Ascensión de nuestro Señor Jesucristo este domingo. Antiguamente se celebraba el jueves anterior al séptimo domingo de Pascua. Nuestro obispo la ha trasladado permanentemente al séptimo domingo de Pascua.

El Catecismo nos enseña: «Solo quien "salió del Padre" puede volver al Padre: Cristo Jesús. "Nadie subió al cielo sino el que bajó del cielo, el Hijo del hombre". Abandonada a sus propias fuerzas naturales, la humanidad no tiene acceso a la "casa del Padre", a la vida y la felicidad de Dios.

Solo Cristo puede abrir al hombre un acceso tal que nosotros, sus miembros, tengamos la confianza de que también iremos donde él, nuestra Cabeza y nuestra Fuente, nos ha precedido».

El final del Evangelio de Lucas contiene el primer relato de la Ascensión, que aquí se presenta como ocurrida el Domingo de Pascua. El Señor resucitado muestra a los Apóstoles cómo las Escrituras habían predicho que Cristo sufriría y resucitaría. Jesús también les encomienda una misión (la proclamación del arrepentimiento y el perdón de los pecados) y les promete enviarles el Espíritu Santo. Regresan con alegría a Jerusalén para esperar El Espíritu.

La Ascensión de Jesús marca el final de su camino terrenal y señala el comienzo de una nueva era. La misión de la Iglesia comienza bajo la guía del Espíritu Santo. Lucas muestra que el tiempo de Israel ha dado paso al tiempo de Cristo. Ahora, el tiempo de Cristo debe dar paso al tiempo de la Iglesia. Esto no significa que Jesús esté ausente, sino que está presente para nosotros a través del Espíritu Santo, en y a través de las celebraciones litúrgicas de nuestra Iglesia, y dondequiera que dos o tres se reúnan en su nombre. En esta gloriosa Solemnidad de la Ascensión, ¡les deseo a todos las bendiciones de Dios!

Jubileo de las Familias, los Abuelos y los Ancianos: En previsión del Jubileo de las Familias, los Niños, los Abuelos y los Ancianos, enmarcado en un año de celebración de la esperanza, recordamos las palabras del Papa Francisco a las familias en su exhortación, Amoris Laetitia (AL): «La encarnación del Verbo en una familia humana, en Nazaret, por su misma novedad cambió la historia del mundo. Necesitamos adentrarnos en el misterio del nacimiento de Jesús, en ese «sí» dado por María al mensaje del ángel, cuando el Verbo fue concebido en su seno, así como en el «sí» de José, quien dio nombre a Jesús y cuidó de María.» (Amoris Laetitia, n.º 65). El 1 de junio, después de la Misa de las 11:00, nos reunimos en el Salón de la Misericordia para la celebración. Todos están invitados.

Peregrinación Jubilar Diocesana al Santuario Nacional en Washington, DC, (20 de septiembre)

Laudato Si celebra su 10.º aniversario: La Iglesia Católica conmemora el 24 de mayo el 10.º aniversario de la encíclica Laudato Si - Sobre el cuidado de la casa común, del papa Francisco, y reflexiona sobre su legado de llamar a la conversión ecológica. Sus enseñanzas sobre ecología integral, justicia social y acción climática profundizaron el pensamiento social católico y ampliaron el diálogo global sobre el medio ambiente. 150.º Aniversario de la Educación Católica en Phillipsburg
A medida que se acerca el aniversario, es necesario realizar preparativos preliminares. Necesitamos formar un equipo de liderazgo para planificar y ejecutar. Buscamos voluntarios para formar parte del equipo de liderazgo. ¡Todos son bienvenidos!

Año Jubilar 2025: (Jubileos en junio)
En junio celebramos seis Jubileos: del 30 de mayo al 1 de junio, el Jubileo de las Familias, los Abuelos y los Ancianos. Los días 7 y 8, el Jubileo de los Movimientos Eclesiales, los Asociados y las Nuevas Comunidades. El 9, el Jubileo de la Santa Sede; el 14 y 15 de junio, el Jubileo del Deporte; y del 20 al 22, el Jubileo de los Gobiernos. Por la proximidad de la Solemnidad del Sagrado Corazón, celebramos el Jubileo de los Seminaristas (23 y 24 de junio), el Jubileo de los Obispos (25 de junio), el Jubileo de los Sacerdotes (25-27 de junio) y, para completar el mes de junio, el Jubileo de la Juventud (del 28 de junio al 3 de julio).
