Dear Family!

This week ended with a high note as we honor our Blessed Mother in her glorious assumption. We thank God as we ponder the words of Pope Pius XII’s words in Munificentissimus Deus 41, “the dogma of the Assumption of Mary is based on Sacred Scripture and deeply embedded in the minds of the faithful; it has received the approval of liturgical worship from the earliest times; it is perfectly in keeping with the rest of revealed truth and has been lucidly developed and explained by the studies, the knowledge and wisdom of theologians.”

Our Lord Jesus continues to teach us not only when things go our way and everything seem to be working but also when our faith is challenged. Jesus gives us hope and the spirit of perseverance in adversity. The Church in Catechism 2610 teaches us, “Just as Jesus prays to the Father and gives thanks before receiving his gifts, so he teaches us filial boldness: "Whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you receive it, and you will.” Such is the power of prayer and of faith that does not doubt: "all things are possible to him who believes.” Jesus is as saddened by the "lack of faith" of his own neighbors and the "little faith" of his own disciples as he is struck with admiration at the great faith of the Roman centurion and the Canaanite woman.”

Prophet Jeremiah teaches the people with courage and boldness of repentance and acceptance of God’s judgment even at the cost of imprisonment and punishment. St. Paul encourages us to make if necessary the painful decision to persevere in following the message of Jesus. In the Gospel, Jesus says, “he came to set the earth on fire”. In the Old Testament ‘fire’ is a symbol of purification, discernment, judgment and a manifestation of the presence of God. Jesus fills us with courage the new covenant people of God to pick up their crosses and follow him amidst all adversity.

Diocesan Jubilee Pilgrimage to the National Shrine in Washington, DC, (Sept. 20th). The Bishop will celebrate a special Mass at the Blue Army Shrine on September 13th (maybe those who cannot go to DC might want a more local pilgrimage).

Pride in Priest Dinner organized by the Knights of Columbus is on September 18, 2025 at 6pm in The Imperia on Easton, 1714 Easton Ave, Somerset, NJ 08873.

New Jersey March for Life is on Thursday, September 25, 2025.

150th Anniversary of Catholic Education in Phillipsburg (Sun, Dec 7th at 11am)
As the anniversary approaches near, there are preliminary preparations that need to happen. Please save the date: Sunday, December 7th, the Bishop will celebrate a special mass at 11am to mark the event. All are welcome!

HVAC upgrade to Chapel and Sacristy: At the height of summer, we were hit with the bad news that our HVAC system in the chapel gave in. After discussing the problem with different companies, we are in the middle of replacing the whole system since the old system was installed in the 90s and is not energy efficient. Please pray for this project. I thank the people who have made contributions towards this project.

Mercy Hall Building Updates: We have completed the roof work. We have purchased 29 double pane, energy efficient windows for the 5 classrooms and restroom. So far we have completed installing new windows in 3 classrooms. We hope to complete installing windows in all of the 5 classrooms and start repairing the walls, floors and fresh coat of paint.

Diocesan Programs in the near future: A Bible study program from September 4th to December 18th, the topic is Prophets. The second part is planned from Jan 15th to Mar 19th on the same topic. Surviving Divorce (an 8 week program organized by the Diocese): This program is for those seeking healing from separation or divorce. It starts on October 1st and ends on November 19th. The sessions will only be on Wednesdays from 6:30pm to 8pm at the Pastoral Center. The 2nd Annual mass for Italian Apostolate will be held at the Newark Cathedral on Oct 4th at 5pm. Jay Donofrio, our Diocesan Youth Director is announcing the launch of a new podcast ‘No half Saints’. Please check it out on YouTube.

20º Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario

¡Querida familia!

Esta semana concluyó con gran entusiasmo al honrar a nuestra Santísima Madre en su gloriosa asunción. Damos gracias a Dios al reflexionar sobre las palabras del Papa Pío XII en Munificentissimus Deus 41: «El dogma de la Asunción de María se basa en la Sagrada Escritura y está profundamente arraigado en la mente de los fieles; ha recibido la aprobación del culto litúrgico desde los tiempos más remotos; está en perfecta armonía con el resto de la verdad revelada y ha sido lúcidamente desarrollado y explicado por los estudios, el conocimiento y la sabiduría de los teólogos».

Nuestro Señor Jesús continúa enseñándonos no solo cuando las cosas nos salen bien y todo parece marchar bien, sino también cuando nuestra fe se ve desafiada. Jesús nos da esperanza y el espíritu de perseverancia en la adversidad. La Iglesia, en el Catecismo 2610, nos enseña: «Así como Jesús ora al Padre y da gracias antes de recibir sus dones, así también nos enseña la audacia filial: «Todo lo que pidan en la oración, crean que lo recibirán, y lo recibirán». Tal es el poder de la oración y de la fe que no duda: «Todo es posible para quien cree». Jesús se entristece tanto por la «falta de fe» de sus vecinos y la «poca fe» de sus discípulos como se admira ante la gran fe del centurión romano y la mujer cananea.

El profeta Jeremías enseña al pueblo, con valentía y audacia, el arrepentimiento y la aceptación del juicio de Dios, incluso a costa de la prisión y el castigo. San Pablo nos anima a tomar, si es necesario, la dolorosa decisión de perseverar en el mensaje de Jesús. En el Evangelio, Jesús dice: «Vino a incendiar la tierra». En el Antiguo Testamento, el fuego es símbolo de purificación, discernimiento, juicio y manifestación de la presencia de Dios. Jesús nos infunde valor, como pueblo de la nueva alianza de Dios, para tomar nuestras cruces y seguirlo en medio de toda adversidad.

Peregrinación Diocesana del Jubileo al Santuario Nacional en Washington, D.C. (20 de septiembre). El obispo celebrará una misa especial en el Santuario del Ejército Azul el 13 de septiembre (quizás quienes no puedan ir a D.C. deseen una peregrinación más local).

La cena “Pride in Priest” organizada por los Caballeros de Colón se llevará a cabo el 18 de septiembre de 2025 a las 6 pm en “The Imperia en Easton”, 1714 Easton Ave, Somerset, NJ 08873.

La Marcha por la Vida de Nueva Jersey será el jueves 25 de septiembre de 2025.

150º Aniversario de la Educación Católica en Phillipsburg (Domingo 7 de diciembre, 11am)
A medida que se acerca el aniversario, es necesario realizar preparativos preliminares. Por favor, reserven la fecha: el domingo 7 de diciembre, el Obispo celebrará una misa especial a las 11:00 am para conmemorar el evento. ¡Todos son bienvenidos!

Actualización del sistema de climatización (HVAC) de la capilla y la sacristía: En pleno verano, recibimos la mala noticia de que nuestro sistema de climatización (HVAC) de la capilla dejó de funcionar. Tras hablar del problema con diferentes empresas, estamos en proceso de reemplazar todo el sistema, ya que el antiguo se instaló en los años 90 y no es energéticamente eficiente. Les pido que oren por este proyecto. Agradezco a quienes han contribuido a él.

Actualizaciones del edificio Mercy Hall: Hemos finalizado las obras del techo. Compramos 29 ventanas de doble acristalamiento y de bajo consumo para las 5 aulas y el baño. Hasta el momento, hemos terminado de instalar ventanas nuevas en 3 aulas. Esperamos terminar de instalar las ventanas en las 5 aulas y comenzar a reparar las paredes, los pisos y aplicar una nueva capa de pintura.

Programas Diocesanos: El programa de estudio bíblico se llevará a cabo del 4 de septiembre al 18 de diciembre, con el tema "Profetas". La segunda parte está prevista del 15 de enero al 19 de marzo, sobre el mismo tema. Sobreviviendo al Divorcio (programa de 8 semanas organizado por la Diócesis): Este programa está dirigido aquellos que buscan sanar tras una separación o divorcio. Comienza el 1 de octubre y termina el 19 de noviembre. Las sesiones serán solo los miércoles de 6:30pm a 8pm en el Centro Pastoral. La 2.ª misa anual del Apostolado Italiano se celebrará en la Catedral de Newark el 4 de octubre a las 5:00 pm.
