Dear Family!

“As this world (Earth) is not for those who are without wealth, so that world (Heaven) is not for those who are without kindness” (Thirukkural 247 written in my mother tongue around Jesus’ time). This is the focal point of this week’s liturgy. We continue to take great care on our financial security; we work hard at it. Do we take enough care on our spiritual security? This paves way to reflect about an important social evil of our time - Financial Slavery.

Are you stressed out? Are you obsessing over something? Are you keeping secrets on your financial details from your spouse? Do you feel that you can’t get ahead in life? Do you feel inadequate or inferior because you don’t have certain things? (God, Money and Me with Brian Jewell). We witness serious imbalances of finances in our modern world. We want to talk about these imbalances since they touch on moral issues of justice, the dignity of a people and their rights.

To compliment the aforementioned ‘Thirukkural’, a famous saying of Jewish rabbis is worth pondering - “The rich help the poor in this world, but the poor help the rich in the world to come. Our true wealth is not in what we keep, but in what we give away.”

"Let those of us who possess earthly wealth open our hearts to those who are in need. Let us show ourselves faithful and obedient to the laws of God. Let us be followers of our Lord's will in those things that are from the outside and not our own. Let us do this so that we may receive what is our own, that holy and admirable beauty that God forms in people's souls, making them like himself, according to what we originally were.” St. Cyril of Alexandria, Commentary on Luke, Homily 109

Diocesan Jubilee Pilgrimage to the National Shrine in Washington, DC.
Thanks to all who participated in the special Mass at Blue Army Shrine on September 13th presided over by our bishop. And thank you to all those who made the pilgrimage to the national shrine and participated in our Diocesan Jubilee Mass with our Bishop and priests.

New Jersey March for Life is on Thursday, September 25, 2025. More information within the bulletin.

Healing Mass at our Parish: Fr. Alex will be celebrating a Healing Mass on September 23rd in our church at 7pm. After the mass, there will be anointing of the sick.

150th Anniversary of Catholic Education in Phillipsburg (Sun, Dec 7th at 11am)
As the anniversary approaches near, there are preliminary preparations that need to happen. Please save the date: Sunday, December 7th, Bishop Checchio will celebrate a special mass at 11am to mark the event. All are welcome!

Mercy Hall Building Updates: After the roof work and installation of 29 energy efficient windows at the top floor we are continuing the repair of all the classrooms. Please pray for the boiler situation in Mercy Hall. We hope to have a solution before winter starts.

25º Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario

¡Querida familia!

“Así como este mundo (la Tierra) no es para quienes carecen de riquezas, tampoco este mundo (el Cielo) es para quienes carecen de bondad” (Thirukkural 247, escrito en mi lengua materna en la época de Jesús). Este es el punto central de la liturgia de esta semana. Seguimos cuidando mucho nuestra seguridad financiera; nos esforzamos por lograrlo. ¿Cuidamos lo suficiente nuestra seguridad espiritual? Esto nos lleva a reflexionar sobre un importante mal social de nuestro tiempo: la esclavitud financiera.

¿Estás estresado? ¿Estás obsesionado con algo? ¿Le ocultas tus finanzas a tu pareja? ¿Sientes que no puedes progresar en la vida? ¿Te sientes inadecuado o inferior por no tener ciertas cosas? (Dios, el dinero y yo con Brian Jewell). Somos testigos de graves desequilibrios financieros en nuestro mundo moderno.

Queremos hablar de estos desequilibrios, ya que afectan cuestiones morales como la justicia, la dignidad de las personas y sus derechos.

Para complementar el mencionado «Thirukkural», vale la pena reflexionar sobre un famoso dicho de los rabinos judíos: «Los ricos ayudan a los pobres en este mundo, pero los pobres ayudan a los ricos en el mundo venidero. Nuestra verdadera riqueza no reside en lo que guardamos, sino en lo que damos».

Quienes poseemos riquezas terrenales, abramos nuestro corazón a quienes lo necesitan. Seamos fieles y obedientes a las leyes de Dios. Seamos seguidores de la voluntad de nuestro Señor en lo externo y ajeno. Hagamos esto para recibir lo nuestro, esa santa y admirable belleza que Dios forma en las almas de las personas, haciéndolas a su imagen, según lo que éramos originalmente. Peregrinación Diocesana del Jubileo al Santuario Nacional en Washington, D.C.
Gracias a todos los que participaron en la Misa especial en el Santuario del Ejército Azul el 13 de septiembre, presidida por nuestro obispo. Y gracias a todos los que peregrinaron al santuario nacional y participaron en nuestra Misa Diocesana del Jubileo con nuestro obispo y sacerdotes.

La Marcha por la Vida de Nueva Jersey será el jueves 25 de septiembre de 2025.

Misa de Sanación en nuestra parroquia: El P. Alex celebrará una Misa de Sanación el 23 de septiembre en nuestra iglesia a las 7pm. Después de la misa, habrá una unción de enfermos.

150º Aniversario de la Educación Católica en Phillipsburg (Domingo 7 de diciembre, 11am)
A medida que se acerca el aniversario, es necesario realizar preparativos preliminares. Por favor, reserven la fecha: el domingo 7 de diciembre, el Obispo celebrará una misa especial a las 11:00 am para conmemorar el evento. ¡Todos son bienvenidos!

Actualizaciones del edificio Mercy Hall: Tras las obras del techo y la instalación de 29 ventanas de bajo consumo en la planta superior, continuamos con la reparación de todas las aulas. Por favor, oren por el problema de la caldera en Mercy Hall. Esperamos tener una solución antes del inicio del invierno.
