Dear Family!

The First Scrutiny is celebrated on the 3rd Sunday of Lent. The scrutinies are a time of prayer and reflection, designed to help the ‘Elect’ deepen their faith and prepare for the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist). Today, on the Laetare Sunday we are celebrating the Second Scrutiny (4th Sunday of Lent) and next week we will celebrate the last Scrutiny.

In all the scrutinies we have Prayers of Exorcism intended to help the ‘Elect’ reject sin and evil influences, Laying on of Hands, a symbol of the power of Holy Spirit for enlightenment and grace and Intercessory prayers for the ‘Elect’. We pray for all who are preparing themselves for the sacraments: Maggie Durnin, Sophia Durnin, Jude Blanes, Joshua Heron, Jeffrey Hurst, Conor McCullough, Kaitlynn Strausser, Alejandro Tenchipe, Angelic Tenchipe and Miguel Tenchipe.

As David is anointed king of Israel in the first reading, we remember our own baptism and in the words of Saint Peter, “You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people of his own, so that you may announce the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” (1 Peter 2:9). The name ‘David ’means ‘Beloved’. We are the beloved of God. As we take part in the three-fold ministry of Jesus as prophet, priest and king, our prayers are and good works both private and public to please God and we are blessed.

St. Paul in the second reading compares the sinner’s conversion to his ‘rising up’ out of the sleep of death into a new existence illuminated by Christ who radiates the light that is the glory of God. That is why we Christians are called children of the light. In the Gospel Jesus cures the blind man and the invitation to God’s Light is extended to all.

Grant is approved - Thanks to all of you for your efforts: I am grateful to the State of New Jersey, Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness for approving a grant to help us better our security around the premises, thanks to the efforts of Laura Sretenovic and Nancy Ensley. We have also just applied for another Grant - National Fund for Sacred Places, pending their approval. Please pray that these projects bring the necessary updates we need to do throughout the parish.

Chrism Mass will be at the Cathedral on Tuesday, March 31st at 4pm. Bishop Bootkoski will be the Celebrant.

“From Isolation to Belonging: Mental Health and the Catholic Church” sponsored by the Catholic Bishops of New Jersey will take place on May 2, 2026 at St. John Neumann Pastoral Center in Piscataway. This conference seeks to deepen awareness of the mental health crisis and to equip clergy, parish staff, ministry leaders, educators, healthcare professionals, and lay faithful with practical resources to better serve those in need. Bishop John P. Dolan of the Diocese of Phoenix will join us as keynote speaker, sharing his experience and leadership in establishing the nation’s first diocesan Office of Mental Health Ministry.

The Catholic Relief Services Collection is scheduled to take place in our diocese on the weekend of April 25 & 26. The funds received every year through the collection support outreach to immigrant communities, seafarers, migrant farmworkers, and others whose work and travels take them far from home. Migrants’ pastoral needs have only grown in a time of anti-immigrant public sentiment.

Beware of email scams posing to be your priest, deacon or a diocesan personnel asking for gift cards or money transfers. Individuals should never ask you money for themselves. All contributions must be made to the parish.

4º Domingo de Cuaresma

¡Querida familia!

El Primer Escrutinio se celebra el tercer domingo de Cuaresma. Los escrutinios son un tiempo de oración y reflexión, diseñado para ayudar a los elegidos a profundizar su fe y prepararse para los sacramentos de Iniciación (Bautismo, Confirmación y Eucaristía). Hoy, Domingo de Laetare, celebramos el Segundo Escrutinio (cuarto domingo de Cuaresma) y la próxima semana celebraremos el último. En todos los escrutinios se realizan oraciones de exorcismo para ayudar a los elegidos a rechazar el pecado y las malas influencias; la imposición de manos, símbolo del poder del Espíritu Santo para la iluminación y la gracia; y oraciones de intercesión por los elegidos. Oramos por todos los que se preparan para los sacramentos: Maggie Durnin, Sophia Durnin, Jude Blanes, Joshua Heron, Jeffrey Hurst, Conor McCullough, Kaitlynn Strausser, Alejandro Tenchipe, Angelic Tenchipe y Miguel Tenchipe.

Al ser ungido David rey de Israel en la primera lectura, recordamos nuestro propio bautismo y, en palabras de San Pedro: «Ustedes son linaje escogido, sacerdocio real, nación santa, pueblo adquirido por Dios, para que anuncien las virtudes de aquel que los llamó de las tinieblas a su luz admirable» (1 Pedro 2:9). El nombre «David» significa «Amado». Somos los amados de Dios. Al participar en el triple ministerio de Jesús como profeta, sacerdote y rey, nuestras oraciones y buenas obras, tanto privadas como públicas, agradan a Dios y somos bendecidos.

San Pablo, en la segunda lectura, compara la conversión del pecador con su resurgimiento del sueño de la muerte a una nueva existencia iluminada por Cristo, quien irradia la luz que es la gloria de Dios. Por eso, los cristianos somos llamados hijos de la luz. En el Evangelio, Jesús cura al ciego y la invitación a la Luz de Dios se extiende a todos.

Subvención aprobada. Gracias a todos por su esfuerzo: Agradezco a la Oficina de Seguridad Nacional y Preparación del Estado de Nueva Jersey por aprobar una subvención para mejorar la seguridad en las instalaciones, gracias a la labor de Laura Sretenovic y Nancy Ensley. También acabamos de solicitar otra subvención, del Fondo Nacional para Lugares Sagrados, pendiente de su aprobación. Les pido que oren para que estos proyectos aporten las actualizaciones necesarias a la parroquia.

La Misa Crismal se celebrará en la Catedral el martes 31 de marzo a las 4pm. El obispo Bootkoski será el celebrante.

El evento “Del Aislamiento a la Pertenencia: Salud Mental y la Iglesia Católica”, patrocinado por los Obispos Católicos de Nueva Jersey, se llevará a cabo el 2 de mayo de 2026 en el Centro Pastoral St. John Neumann en Piscataway. Esta conferencia busca profundizar la conciencia sobre la crisis de salud mental y dotar al clero, personal parroquial, líderes ministeriales, educadores, profesionales de la salud y fieles laicos con recursos prácticos para servir mejor a quienes lo necesitan. El Obispo John P. Dolan, de la Diócesis de Phoenix, nos acompañará como orador principal, compartiendo su experiencia y liderazgo en el establecimiento de la primera Oficina Diocesana del Ministerio de Salud Mental del país.

La Colecta de “Catholic Relief Services”
Está programada para el fin de semana del 25 y 26 de abril en nuestra diócesis. Los fondos recibidos anualmente a través de la colecta apoyan la ayuda a las comunidades inmigrantes, marineros, trabajadores agrícolas migrantes y otras personas cuyo trabajo y viajes los alejan de sus hogares. Las necesidades pastorales de los migrantes no han hecho más que crecer en tiempos de sentimiento público antiinmigrante.

Tenga cuidado con las estafas por correo electrónico que se hacen pasar por su sacerdote, diácono o miembro del personal diocesano y le piden tarjetas de regalo o transferencias de dinero. Nunca se le debe pedir dinero para sí mismo. Todas las contribuciones deben hacerse a la parroquia.
