Dear Family!

The Fourth Sunday of Easter is traditionally known as ‘The Good Shepherd Sunday’. All three years (A, B, & C) we read from the same parable (John 10). The sacred writers of the Old Testament beautifully presented God (Holy Name of God) as the Good Shepherd and in the sacred writers of the New Testament presented Jesus as the Good Shepherd since they perfectly understood and believed that Jesus is the incarnation of God the Father, revealing us His identity by what he does as the Good Shepherd.

In the same way ‘the sheep’ or ‘the flock’ is the land and people of Israel in the Old Testament and ‘The Church’ in the New Testament.

In Christian sense, a good shepherd becomes one by being a good sheep. The Son learns from the Father (John 5:19-20). Jesus learnt how to be a good sheep by the shepherding love of the Father. Jesus teaches us the secrets of being and growing into a sheep of his own heart. We learn from Jesus that as a good sheep, the Son does not operate independently of the Father. In order to shepherd our family, our community and our society, we need to operate fully depending on God and be convinced that without God we can do nothing.

We also learn from Jesus that as a good sheep, the Son is in constant touch with the Father. What motivates and encourages us to depend on God is our constant touch with God through prayer especially our love for the Eucharist. It is the Eucharist that unifies us with Jesus most intimately. We also learn from Jesus that as a good sheep, Jesus discerns the Father’s doing. We learn everything that is good from God: our parenting style, carrying out our responsibilities of being a good Christian, good citizen and a good neighbor. Our goodness comes from God alone. We are good because God loves us.

American Bishops on War and Peace: “For over a thousand years, the Catholic Church has taught just war theory and it is that long tradition the Holy Father carefully references in his comments on war. A constant tenet of that thousand-year tradition is a nation can only legitimately take up the sword ‘in self-defense, once all peace efforts have failed ’ (Catechism of the Catholic Church, no. 2308). That is, to be a just war it must be a defense against another who actively wages war, which is what the Holy Father actually said: ‘He does not listen to the prayers of those who wage war.’ “When Pope Leo XIV speaks as supreme pastor of the universal Church, he is not merely offering opinions on theology, he is preaching the Gospel and exercising his ministry as the Vicar of Christ. The consistent teaching of the Church is insistent that all people of good will, must pray and work toward lasting peace while avoiding the evils and injustices that accompany all wars.”

Special Franciscan Jubilee Year (January 10, 2026 - January 10, 2027)
Pope Leo XIV has proclaimed this year a Special Jubilee to mark the 800th Anniversary of St. Francis ’ death in 1226. To commemorate the spirituality of St. Francis, we will have a weekly quote from St. Francis in our Bulletin.

Venerable Fulton J Sheen will be beatified on September 24, 2026
The spectacular and proud moment for the American Church as we move closer to celebrate a very important day for all of us in witnessing the beatification of Venerable Fulton Sheen. The event will take place in St. Louis, Missouri and the Celebrant will be Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle representing our Pope.

250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence: As for the preparation in parish level, I strongly encourage you to share your faith in writing an article for the parish community. The topic - Our American Story: How my faith influenced my identity as an American and how being an American influenced my life as a Christian/Catholic. “From Isolation to Belonging: Mental Health and the Catholic Church” sponsored by the Catholic Bishops of New Jersey will take place on May 2, 2026 at St. John Neumann Pastoral Center in Piscataway.

Diocesan Programs in the near future: The Natural Family Planning Workshop – in Spanish (Apr. 29th), the NJ State Catholic Mental Health Conference (May 2nd), 1st year anniversary of the election of Pope Leo XIV (May 8th), and the NJ Catholic Youth Rally (May 17th). Quarto Domingo De Pascua

¡Querida familia!

El cuarto domingo de Pascua es tradicionalmente conocido como 'El Domingo del Buen Pastor'. Los tres años (A, B, y C) los leemos de la misma parábola (Juan 10). Los escritores sagrados del Antiguo Testamento presentaron bellamente a Dios (el Santo Nombre de Dios) como el Buen Pastor y en los escritores sagrados del Nuevo Testamento presentaron a Jesús como el Buen Pastor, ya que entendían y creían perfectamente que Jesús es la encarnación de Dios Padre, revelándonos Su identidad a través de lo que hace como el Buen Pastor. De la misma manera, 'la oveja' o 'el rebaño' es la tierra y el pueblo de Israel en el Antiguo Testamento y 'La Iglesia' en el Nuevo Testamento.

En el sentido cristiano, un buen pastor se convierte en uno por ser una buena oveja. El Hijo aprende del Padre (Juan 5:19-20). Jesús aprendió a ser una buena oveja por el amor pastoreo del Padre. Jesús nos enseña los secretos del ser y de crecer hasta convertirnos en una oveja de su propio corazón. Aprendemos de Jesús que, como buena oveja, el Hijo no actúa de forma independiente del Padre. Para guiar a nuestra familia, nuestra comunidad y nuestra sociedad, necesitamos depender plenamente de Dios y estar convencidos de que sin Dios no podemos hacer nada.

También aprendemos de Jesús que, como buena oveja, el Hijo está en contacto constante con el Padre. Lo que nos motiva y anima a depender de Dios es nuestro contacto constante con Dios a través de la oración, especialmente nuestro amor por la Eucaristía. Es la Eucaristía la que nos une más íntimamente con Jesús. También aprendemos de Jesús que, como buena oveja, Jesús discierne lo que el Padre está haciendo. Aprendemos todo lo bueno de Dios: nuestro estilo de crianza, cumplir con nuestras responsabilidades de ser un buen cristiano, un buen ciudadano y un buen vecino. Nuestra bondad viene solo de Dios. Somos buenos porque Dios nos ama.

Obispos estadounidenses sobre la guerra y la paz: "Durante más de mil años, la Iglesia Católica ha enseñado la teoría de la guerra justa y es esa larga tradición a la que el Santo Padre hace referencia cuidadosamente en sus comentarios sobre la guerra. Un principio constante de esa tradición milenaria es que una nación solo puede tomar legítimamente la espada 'en defensa propia, una vez que todos los esfuerzos de paz han 'fracasado (Catecismo de la Iglesia Católica, nº 2308). Es decir, para que sea una guerra justa debe ser una defensa contra otro que hace la guerra activamente, que es lo que realmente dijo el Santo Padre: 'Él no escucha las oraciones de quienes hacen la guerra." 'Cuando el Papa León XIV habla como pastor supremo de la Iglesia universal, no solo ofrece opiniones sobre teología, predica el Evangelio y ejerce su ministerio como Vicario de Cristo. La enseñanza coherente de la Iglesia insiste en que todas las personas de buena voluntad deben rezar y trabajar por una paz duradera, evitando los males e injusticias que acompañan a todas las guerras."

Año Jubilar Franciscano Especial (10 de enero de 2026 – 10 de enero de 2027)
El Papa León XIV ha proclamado este año como un Jubileo Especial para conmemorar el 800.º aniversario de la muerte de San Francisco, acaecida en 1226. Para celebrar la espiritualidad de San Francisco, incluiremos una cita semanal suya en nuestro boletín.

El Venerable Fulton J. Sheen será beatificado el 24 de septiembre de 2026.
Es un momento espectacular y de gran orgullo para la Iglesia estadounidense, a medida que nos acercamos a celebrar un día de suma importancia para todos nosotros: la beatificación del Venerable Fulton Sheen.
