Dear Family!

We are witnesses! This is the theme we reflect and pray about this third Sunday of Easter. Every age has seen its own witnessing spirit of Christians after the Resurrection of Jesus. The word ‘Martyr’ in Greek means one who bears witness (to Christ). This was the standard in which the witnessing spirit was lived out in the early church. Witnessing spirit ranges from inflicting pain on oneself to extreme measures of penance in the early church.

The middle ages saw the ascent of the spiritual journey, the dark night of the soul, radical Religious Life in poverty, chastity and obedience. What is the nature of today’s witnessing?

Witnessing to Jesus and His message of love seem to be a lot more difficult for people who are already filled with struggles and anxieties of life. This is no different from the apostles confined to the upper room out of fear and death. How do we answer to the question ‘What are we witnesses of today?’?

We are witnesses of Jesus’s resurrection. All our witnessing spirit and action emanate from the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. The resurrected Christ stood in the midst of the apostles to take away their fear and anxiety and filled them with strength and new life. Peter’s first Kerygma (Proclamation) that we heard today in the first reading is the result of Jesus’s living and loving encouragement and strength to all of us.

We are witnesses to repentance and forgiveness of sins that were made available for us through the death and resurrection of Jesus. Jesus continues to give us life. Our witnessing is seen in our care for one another just like the Apostles who cared for the sick, needy and the poor. Our road to Emmaus can be dull, discouraging, disorienting but Jesus makes our road to Emmaus enlightening, encouraging and mission oriented. We are witnesses!

American Bishops Response to the President: Archbishop Paul S. Coakley, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops issued a brief response to a social media post by President Trump on Sunday evening. “I am disheartened that the President chose to write such disparaging words about the Holy Father. Pope Leo is not his rival; nor is the Pope a politician. He is the Vicar of Christ who speaks from the truth of the Gospel and for the care of souls.”

Special Franciscan Jubilee Year (January 10, 2026 - January 10, 2027)
Pope Leo XIV has proclaimed this year a Special Jubilee to mark the 800th Anniversary of St. Francis’ death in 1226. To commemorate the spirituality of St. Francis, we will have a weekly quote from St. Francis in our Bulletin.

Venerable Fulton J. Sheen will be beatified on September 24, 2026
The spectacular and proud moment for the American Church as we move closer to celebrate a very important day for all of us in witnessing the beatification of Venerable Fulton Sheen. The event will take place in St. Louis, Missouri and the Celebrant will be Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle representing our Pope.

250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence: As for the preparation in parish level, I strongly encourage you to share your faith in writing an article for the parish community. The topic - Our American Story: How my faith influenced my identity as an American and how being an American influenced my life as a Christian/Catholic. Please send your article to the parish office.

Leadership Summit for Men
For all the parishes in Warren County (Metuchen Diocese - Morris Canal Deanery), there is a leadership summit being planned by the diocese in April this year. (April 24-25). Please talk to any clergy for more information or see the flyer within bulletin.

“From Isolation to Belonging: Mental Health and the Catholic Church” sponsored by the Catholic Bishops of New Jersey will take place on May 2, 2026 at St. John Neumann Pastoral Center in Piscataway.

The Catholic Relief Services Collection is scheduled to take place in our diocese on the weekend of April 25/26.

Diocesan Programs in the near future: The Rutgers Catholic Experience Event (Apr. 19th), Ongoing Faith Formation Classes (starting April 19th), the Natural Family Planning Workshop – in Spanish (Apr. 29th), the NJ State Catholic Mental Health Conference (May 2nd), and the NJ Catholic Youth Rally (May 17th).

Tercer Domingo De Pascua

¡Querida familia!

¡Somos testigos! Este es el tema sobre el cual reflexionamos y oramos en este tercer domingo de Pascua. Cada época ha sido testigo de su propio espíritu de testimonio por parte de los cristianos tras la Resurrección de Jesús. La palabra «mártir» significa, en griego, aquel que da testimonio (de Cristo). Este fue el modelo conforme al cual se vivió el espíritu de testimonio en la Iglesia primitiva. Dicho espíritu abarcaba, en los primeros tiempos de la Iglesia, desde la autoinfligencia de dolor hasta medidas extremas de penitencia. La Edad Media vio el auge del camino espiritual, la «noche oscura del alma» y una vida religiosa radical basada en la pobreza, la castidad y la obediencia. ¿Cuál es la naturaleza del testimonio en nuestros días?

Dar testimonio de Jesús y de su mensaje de amor parece resultar mucho más difícil para aquellas personas que ya se encuentran abrumadas por las luchas y las ansiedades de la vida. Esto no difiere en absoluto de la situación de los apóstoles, confinados en el Cenáculo por miedo a la muerte. ¿Cómo respondemos a la pregunta: «¿De qué somos testigos hoy?»?

Somos testigos de la resurrección de Jesús. Todo nuestro espíritu y acción de testimonio emanan de la Resurrección de Jesucristo. El Cristo resucitado se situó en medio de los apóstoles para disipar su miedo y ansiedad, y los colmó de fortaleza y vida nueva. El primer Kerigma (Proclamación) de Pedro, que hemos escuchado hoy en la primera lectura, es el resultado del aliento amoroso y vivificante, así como de la fortaleza, que Jesús nos brinda a todos nosotros.

Somos testigos del arrepentimiento y del perdón de los pecados, puestos a nuestra disposición mediante la muerte y la resurrección de Jesús. Jesús continúa dándonos vida. Nuestro testimonio se manifiesta en el cuidado que nos brindamos unos a otros, tal como lo hicieron los Apóstoles, quienes cuidaron de los enfermos, de los necesitados y de los pobres. Nuestro camino a Emaús puede resultar monótono, desalentador y desorientador; sin embargo, Jesús transforma nuestro camino a Emaús, haciéndolo iluminador, alentador y orientado hacia la misión. ¡Somos testigos!

Respuesta de los obispos estadounidenses al presidente: El arzobispo Paul S. Coakley, presidente de la Conferencia de Obispos Católicos de los Estados Unidos, emitió una breve respuesta a una publicación en redes sociales realizada por el presidente Trump el domingo por la noche. «Me entristece que el presidente haya elegido escribir palabras tan despectivas sobre el Santo Padre. El papa León no es su rival; tampoco es el Papa un político. Él es el Vicario de Cristo, quien habla desde la verdad del Evangelio y para el cuidado de las almas».

Año Jubilar Franciscano Especial (10 de enero de 2026 – 10 de enero de 2027)
El Papa León XIV ha proclamado este año como un Jubileo Especial para conmemorar el 800.º aniversario de la muerte de San Francisco, acaecida en 1226. Para celebrar la espiritualidad de San Francisco, incluiremos una cita semanal suya en nuestro boletín.
