Dear Family!

Happy Pentecost Sunday to all of you! Christians or the ‘People of the Way’ from the beginning, believed in the doctrine of the Trinity with unhesitating faith. As Saint Augustine taught us, “Every measure of Christian progress comes through a spiritual and reasoned understanding of the Trinity”, knowledge and the centrality of Pentecost is crucial for all Christians. Jesus as the Christ (Messiah) can only be understood within the realm of the Spirit (Anointed with the Spirit).

From the beginning of the conception, incarnation and early years of Jesus (The New Creation) were so remarkably enveloped by the warmth of the Holy Spirit in the same way God created the world and guided it through great leaders and prophets (The Old Creation) through the sublime power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus’ public ministry began with his Baptism in the Holy Spirit and everything of what Jesus did and said directly or indirectly connected to the person of the Holy Spirit (Preaching, healing, moving).

Pentecost is to be understood only in connection with the Passover as the Passover refers to the redemption, Pentecost in turn refers to the New Covenant. The 50th day was celebrated traditionally by the Jews as the feast of First-fruits and also most importantly the day was remembered as the day they received the Law from Sinai. Our First-fruits day is Pentecost, and it is this day we receive the New Covenant thus, it is “the espousal day” (George Smeaton) of the Christian Church.

“In his Letter to the Galatians, St Paul recalls that "the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self- control" (Gal 5: 22-23). These are the gifts of the Holy Spirit that we also implore today for all Christians, so that in the common and generous service to the Gospel, they may be a sign of God's love for humanity in the world. Let us turn our gaze confidently to Mary, the Shrine of the Holy Spirit and through her pray: "Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love”.” (Pope Benedict on May 7, 2008)

Ordinations for the Diocese of Metuchen 2026: The diocese has announced that Rev. Mr. James F Prumos will be ordained to the Order of Priests and Mr. Patrick J Rasimowicz will be ordained to the order of Deacon. Ordination to Priesthood and Diaconate will be at the Cathedral on June 20th, 10am. Please pray for these young men who said ‘Yes’ to the Service of God and Church.

Day of Recollection for 8th Grade Children: On May 20th the 8th grade had a Day of Recollection in preparation for their graduation. We want to thank the teachers and staff for all the formation that they put in these children over the years to prepare them for the challenges ahead. Please continue to keep them in your prayers.

Special Franciscan Jubilee Year (January 10, 2026 - January 10, 2027)
Pope Leo XIV has proclaimed this year a Special Jubilee to mark the 800th Anniversary of St. Francis’ death in 1226. To commemorate the spirituality of St. Francis, we will have a weekly quote from St. Francis in our Bulletin.

250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence: A Special Novena
On June 12th, the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart, we have the national consecration of the United States. To commemorate this event, our Bishops have put together a special Novena which starts on June 3rd leading unto the Solemnity.

Law Enforcement Recollection Day: We wish and pray for all Law-Enforcement officers for their service to our community especially the Police Departments that are around our Parish Community, such as Phillipsburg Police Department. A special Day of Recollection is organized for them by our Diocese on June 13th. Many law enforcement agencies actually allow their officers to apply to be paid to attend. Please keep them in your prayers.

Diocesan Programs in the near future: Save the Date heads up that this year is the 25th Anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Querida familia!

¡Feliz Domingo de Pentecostés a todos ustedes! Los cristianos —o el «Pueblo del Camino», desde sus inicios— creyeron en la doctrina de la Trinidad con una fe inquebrantable. Como nos enseñó San Agustín: «Todo progreso cristiano proviene de una comprensión espiritual y razonada de la Trinidad»; por ello, el conocimiento de la Trinidad —así como la centralidad de Pentecostés— resulta crucial para todos los cristianos. Jesús, en cuanto Cristo (el Mesías), solo puede ser comprendido dentro del ámbito del Espíritu (como el Ungido por el Espíritu).

Desde el comienzo mismo de su concepción, encarnación y primeros años, Jesús (la Nueva Creación) estuvo envuelto de manera extraordinaria en la calidez del Espíritu Santo; del mismo modo en que Dios creó el mundo y lo guio a través de grandes líderes y profetas (la Antigua Creación) mediante el poder sublime del Espíritu Santo. El ministerio público de Jesús comenzó con su bautismo en el Espíritu Santo, y todo cuanto Jesús hizo y dijo estuvo directa o indirectamente vinculado a la persona del Espíritu Santo (su predicación, sus sanaciones y su movimiento).

Pentecostés debe entenderse únicamente en relación con la Pascua; así como la Pascua remite a la redención, Pentecostés, a su vez, remite al Nuevo Pacto.

El quincuagésimo día era celebrado tradicionalmente por los judíos como la Fiesta de las Primicias y, lo que es aún más importante, se conmemoraba como el día en que recibieron la Ley en el Sinaí. Nuestro día de las Primicias es Pentecostés, y es en este día que recibimos el Nuevo Pacto; por consiguiente, es «el día de los desposorios» (George Smeaton) de la Iglesia cristiana.

«En su Carta a los Gálatas, San Pablo recuerda que "el fruto del Espíritu es amor, alegría, paz, paciencia, amabilidad, bondad, fidelidad, mansedumbre y dominio de sí" (Gal 5, 22-23). Estos son los dones del Espíritu Santo que hoy imploramos también para todos los cristianos, para que, en el servicio común y generoso al Evangelio, sean en el mundo un signo del amor de Dios por la humanidad. Dirijamos nuestra mirada con confianza hacia María, Santuario del Espíritu Santo, y, por medio de ella, oremos: "Ven, Espíritu Santo; llena los corazones de tus fieles y enciende en ellos el fuego de tu amor"». Ordenaciones para la Diócesis de Metuchen 2026: La diócesis ha anunciado que el Rev. Sr. James F. Prumos será ordenado al Orden de los Presbíteros, y el Sr. Patrick J. Rasimowicz será ordenado al Orden del Diaconado. La ordenación al sacerdocio y al diaconado tendrá lugar en la Catedral el 20 de junio, a las 10:00am. Por favor, oren por estos jóvenes que han dicho «Sí» al servicio de Dios y de la Iglesia.

Día de Recolección para los alumnos de 8.º grado: El 20 de mayo, los alumnos de 8.º grado celebraron un Día de Recolección como preparación para su graduación. Queremos agradecer a los maestros y al personal por toda la formación que han brindado a estos niños a lo largo de los años, preparándolos para los desafíos que les esperan. Por favor, continúen teniéndolos presentes en sus oraciones.

Año Jubilar Franciscano Especial (10 de enero de 2026 – 10 de enero de 2027)
El Papa León XIV ha proclamado este año como un Jubileo Especial para conmemorar el 800.º aniversario de la muerte de San Francisco, acaecida en 1226. Para celebrar la espiritualidad de San Francisco, incluiremos una cita semanal suya en nuestro boletín.

250.º aniversario de la Declaración de Independencia: Una novena especial
El 12 de junio, Solemnidad del Sagrado Corazón, tiene lugar la consagración nacional de los Estados Unidos. Para conmemorar este acontecimiento, nuestros obispos han preparado una novena especial que comienza el 3 de junio, como preparación para dicha Solemnidad.

Día de Retiro para las Fuerzas del Orden: Elevamos nuestros deseos y oraciones por todos los agentes de las fuerzas del orden por su servicio a nuestra comunidad, especialmente por los departamentos de policía que se encuentran en el entorno de nuestra comunidad parroquial, tales como el Departamento de Policía de Phillipsburg. Nuestra Diócesis ha organizado para ellos un Día de Retiro especial el 13 de junio. De hecho, muchas agencias del orden público permiten a sus agentes solicitar asistir a este evento con goce de sueldo. Por favor, ténganlos presentes en sus oraciones.
