Dear Family!

The Second Sunday of Easter is known as the Divine Mercy Sunday, and we always read about St. Thomas on this Sunday. I grew up in the Archdiocese of Madras-Mylapore, in the southern part of India, I was introduced to the faith of St. Thomas in my childhood. The patron of my home diocese and the Cathedral of my home diocese are named after Saint Thomas. My home-town is the home of Saint Thomas Mount and the place of his martyrdom.

When Jesus rose from the dead, Thomas took his own time in confessing ‘My Lord and my God ’and when Thomas was killed the Christians later took their own time to confess the same ‘My Lord and my God.’ Thus, Thomas took with him his inquisitive mind, clear thinking, logical perception and a mathematical analysis of a situation. From experience we learn he was a man of clarity. He not only took the blame for all of us that our doubt is cleared once and for all; he took that quality with him wherever he was. He preached the gospel to the nations with this clarity so all could understand with clarity.

This man ran away from Mount Calvary, and he became blind to the Lord and God in Jesus. It is the compassion of God that gave him another chance. Thomas empowered by the Holy Spirit would never lose the second chance. He would hold fast to that chance all his life. Divine Mercy is what we long for. Divine Mercy is what God promises us through Saint Thomas.

Saint Thomas! Pray for us!

Special Franciscan Jubilee Year (January 10, 2026 - January 10, 2027)
Pope Leo XIV has proclaimed this year a Special Jubilee to mark the 800th Anniversary of St. Francis’ death in 1226. To commemorate the spirituality of St. Francis, we will have a weekly quote from St. Francis in our Bulletin.

Venerable Fulton J. Sheen will be beatified on September 24, 2026
This spectacular and proud moment for the American Church as we move closer to celebrate a very important day for all of us in witnessing the beatification of Ven. Fulton Sheen. The event will take place in St. Louis, Missouri and the Celebrant will be Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle representing our Pope. Fulton Sheen remains a great source of inspiration to Bishops and priests throughout the world and all God’s people especially all those who minister in the area of evangelization.

250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence: As for the preparation in parish level, I strongly encourage you to share your faith in writing an article for the parish community. The topic - Our American Story: How my faith influenced my identity as an American and how being an American influenced my life as a Christian/Catholic. Please send your article to the parish office.

Leadership Summit for Men
For all the parishes in Warren County (Metuchen Diocese - Morris Canal Deanery), there is a leadership summit being planned by the diocese in April this year. (April 24-25). Please talk to any clergy for more information or call the office.

“From Isolation to Belonging: Mental Health and the Catholic Church” sponsored by the Catholic Bishops of New Jersey will take place on May 2, 2026 at St. John Neumann Pastoral Center in Piscataway.

The Catholic Relief Services Collection is scheduled to take place in our diocese on the weekend of April 25/26. Funds received every year through the collection support outreach to immigrant communities, seafarers, migrant farmworkers, and others whose work and travels take them far from home. Migrants’ pastoral needs have only grown in a time of anti-immigrant public sentiment.

Diocesan Programs in the near future: Surviving Divorce Program (starting on Apr. 15th), the Rutgers Catholic Experience Event (Apr. 19th), Ongoing Faith Formation Classes (starting April 19th), the Natural Family Planning Workshop – in Spanish (Apr. 29th), the NJ State Catholic Mental Health Conference (May 2nd) and the NJ Catholic Youth Rally (May 17th).

Domingo De La Misericordia  

¡Querida familia!

El Segundo Domingo de Pascua se conoce como el Domingo de la Divina Misericordia, y en este domingo siempre leemos acerca de Santo Tomás. Crecí en la Arquidiócesis de Madras- Mylapore, en el sur de la India, y fue durante mi infancia cuando se me introdujo en la fe de Santo Tomás. Tanto el patrono de mi diócesis natal como la catedral de la misma llevan el nombre de Santo Tomás. Mi ciudad natal alberga el Monte de Santo Tomás y es el lugar de su martirio.

Cuando Jesús resucitó de entre los muertos, Tomás se tomó su tiempo para confesar: «¡Señor mío y Dios mío!»; y cuando Tomás fue martirizado, los cristianos, más tarde, se tomaron también su tiempo para confesar lo mismo: «¡Señor mío y Dios mío!». Así pues, Tomás llevó consigo su mente inquisitiva, su pensamiento lúcido, su percepción lógica y su análisis matemático de las situaciones. Por experiencia, aprendemos que fue un hombre de gran claridad. No solo asumió la carga de la duda en nombre de todos nosotros —para que esta quedara despejada de una vez por todas—, sino que llevó consigo esa cualidad a dondequiera que fue. Predicó el Evangelio a las naciones con tal claridad que todos pudieron comprenderlo con la misma nitidez.

Este hombre huyó del Monte Calvario y quedó ciego ante el Señor y Dios en Jesús. Fue la compasión de Dios la que le brindó una segunda oportunidad. Tomás, fortalecido por el Espíritu Santo, jamás desperdiciaría esa segunda oportunidad; se aferraría a ella durante toda su vida. La Divina Misericordia es aquello que anhelamos. La Divina Misericordia es lo que Dios nos promete por medio de Santo Tomás. ¡Santo Tomás! ¡Ruega por nosotros!

Un agradecimiento especial a todos: Nunca podré agradecerles lo suficiente por haber hecho de la Semana Santa una experiencia tan especial y significativa, gracias a su apoyo y activa participación. Año Jubilar Franciscano Especial (10 de enero de 2026 – 10 de enero de 2027)
El Papa León XIV ha proclamado este año como un Jubileo Especial para conmemorar el 800.º aniversario de la muerte de San Francisco, acaecida en 1226. Para celebrar la espiritualidad de San Francisco, incluiremos una cita semanal suya en nuestro boletín.

El Venerable Fulton J. Sheen será beatificado el 24 de septiembre de 2026.
Este es un momento espectacular y de gran orgullo para la Iglesia estadounidense, a medida que nos acercamos a celebrar un día de suma importancia para todos nosotros: ser testigos de la beatificación del Venerable Fulton Sheen. El evento tendrá lugar en San Luis, Misuri, y el celebrante será el Cardenal Luis Antonio Tagle, en representación de nuestro Papa. Cumbre de Liderazgo para Hombres

La Colecta de “Catholic Relief Services”
Está programada para el fin de semana del 25 y 26 de abril en nuestra diócesis. Los fondos recibidos anualmente a través de la colecta apoyan la ayuda a las comunidades inmigrantes, marineros, trabajadores agrícolas migrantes y otras personas cuyo trabajo y viajes los alejan de sus hogares. Las necesidades pastorales de los migrantes no han hecho más que crecer en tiempos de sentimiento público antiinmigrante.

Programas Diocesanos en el futuro cercano: Programa «Sobrevivir al divorcio» (comienza el 15 de abril), el evento «Experiencia Católica en Rutgers» (19 de abril), clases continuas de formación en la fe (comienzan el 19 de abril), el taller de Planificación Familiar Natural —en español— (29 de abril), la Conferencia Católica Estatal de Nueva Jersey sobre Salud Mental (2 de mayo) y el Encuentro de Jóvenes Católicos de Nueva Jersey (17 de mayo).
