Dear Family!

My sincere thanks to Escarlen Duran, Diane Volk and Joanne Scott for their dedicated service in training our children for their First Holy Communion. Last Saturday we had 17 children receiving Holy Communion and this Saturday we have 18 children receiving their Holy Communion. We thank the parents, God-Parents, Grandparents, and all family members in making these celebrations.

I thank our Search Committee (Bill Casey, Eileen Catalli, Mary Jane Duetsch, Frank Lombardi, Roger Jinks and Eileen Dean) for all their hard work in studying and interviewing all the candidates who have applied for the position of Principal. I urge you to pray for the search committee.

I also thank the Faith and Service Committee (Margie Markus, Bill Casey, John Stana, Cary Giacalone) for the beautiful celebration of honoring our two couples (James & Camille Brennan and Roger & Kathi Jinks) for their faith and service to our parish and community. Your support and encouragement for these events mean a lot to the growth of our parish. I thank all the sponsors and volunteers for their time and contributions.

As we commence a year of Eucharistic Revival in our parish, the monthly gathering and sharing of faith are very important. This could be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for people. I thank our 72 Disciples Ministry for hosting these monthly gatherings for us. I humbly request you to be a leader in our community by participating in this ministry. Our first monthly gathering starts on May 10th at 6:30pm. Please come as a family and be nourished by our parish community.

The month of May is the "month which the piety of the faithful has especially dedicated to Our Blessed Lady," and it is the occasion for a "moving tribute of faith and love which Catholics in every part of the world [pay] to the Queen of Heaven. During this month Christians, both in church and in the privacy of the home, offer up to Mary from their hearts an especially fervent and loving homage of prayer and veneration. In this month, too, the benefits of God's mercy come down to us from her throne in greater abundance" (Paul VI: Encyclical on the Month of May, no. 1).

The Readings speak to us of the wonderful mystery of our spiritual union with our Risen Lord as Gaudium et Spes 45 teaches us, “the goal of human history, the focal point of the longings of history and civilization, the center of the human race, the joy of every heart and the answer to all its yearnings.”

St. John Paul II reflects on the question of Thomas in our gospel today: "How can we know the way?" expresses a spontaneous reaction to the presentation of the Christian view of life and reality.

Indeed, it expresses the concern felt by every human being when awakened to a sense of responsibility for the life that God has given, when faced with the need to give direction to life’s activities. It is a question which has accompanied the human family in one way or another throughout its history, and which today takes the form of an acute concern for the very future of civilization, a concern which expresses itself in the hearts and voices of many, especially the young, as a dramatic plea for justice, peace, and truth in human affairs.” (Homily on May 17, 1987)

Let us invoke the intercessions of our Lady in the words of St. John Paul II, “You are the splendor which in no way dims the light of Christ, for you exist in him and through him. Everything in you is fiat: you are the Immaculate One, through you there shines the fullness of grace. Here, then, are your children, gathered before you.”

¡Querida Familia!

Mi más sincero agradecimiento a Escarlen Duran, Diane Volk y Joanne Scott por su dedicado servicio en la formación de nuestros niños para la Primera Comunión. El sábado pasado tuvimos 17 niños recibiendo la Sagrada Comunión y este sábado tenemos 18 niños recibiendo la Sagrada Comunión. Agradecemos a los padres, padrinos, abuelos y a todos los miembros de la familia por realizar estas celebraciones.

Agradezco a nuestro Comité de Búsqueda (Bill Casey, Eileen Catalli, Mary Jane Duetsch, Frank Lombardi, Roger Jinks y Eileen Dean) por todo su arduo trabajo al estudiar y entrevistar a todos los candidatos que solicitaron el puesto de Director. Les pido que orar por el comité de búsqueda.

También agradezco al Comité de Fe y Servicio (Margie Markus, Bill Casey, John Stana, Cary Giacalone) por la hermosa celebración de honrar a nuestras dos parejas (James & Camille Brennan y Roger & Kathi Jinks) por su fe y servicio a nuestra parroquia y comunidad.

Su apoyo y ánimo para estos eventos significan mucho para el crecimiento de nuestra parroquia. Agradezco a todos los patrocinadores y voluntarios por su tiempo y contribuciones.

Al comenzar un año de Avivamiento Eucarístico en nuestra parroquia, la reunión mensual y el intercambio de fe son muy importantes. Esta podría ser una experiencia que se da una vez en la vida para las personas. Agradezco a nuestro Ministerio de los 72 Discípulos por organizar estas reuniones mensuales para nosotros. Humildemente le pido que sea un líder en nuestra comunidad participando en este ministerio. Nuestra primera reunión mensual comienza el 10 de mayo a las 6:30 pm. Vengan en familia y sea nutrido por nuestra comunidad parroquial.

El mes de mayo es el "mes que la piedad de los fieles ha dedicado especialmente a la Santísima Virgen", y es la ocasión para un "emocionante tributo de fe y de amor que los católicos de todas partes del mundo [rinden] a la Reina del Cielo. Durante este mes los cristianos, tanto en la iglesia como en la intimidad del hogar, ofrecen a María desde con todo su corazón un homenaje de oración y veneración ferviente y amoroso. También en este mes, los beneficios de la misericordia de Dios descienden sobre nosotros desde el trono de ella en mayor abundancia." (Pablo VI: Encíclica sobre el mes de mayo, n. 1).

Las Lecturas nos hablan del maravilloso misterio de nuestra unión espiritual con nuestro Señor Resucitado como nos enseña la Gaudium et Spes 45, “el objetivo de la historia humana, el punto focal de los anhelos de la historia y de la civilización, el centro del género humano, la alegría de todo corazón y la respuesta a todos sus anhelos.”

San Juan Pablo II reflexiona sobre la pregunta de Tomás en nuestro evangelio de hoy: "¿Cómo podemos conocer el camino?" expresa una reacción espontánea a la presentación de la visión cristiana de la vida y la realidad. En efecto, expresa la preocupación que siente todo ser humano cuando despierta al sentido de responsabilidad por la vida que Dios le ha dado, cuando se enfrenta a la necesidad de orientar las actividades de la vida. Es una cuestión que ha acompañado de una forma u otra a la familia humana a lo largo de su historia, y que hoy se manifiesta en una aguda preocupación por el futuro mismo de la civilización, una preocupación que se expresa en el corazón y en la voz de muchos, especialmente los jóvenes, como una súplica dramática por la justicia, la paz y la verdad en los asuntos humanos”. Invoquemos las intercesiones de nuestra Señora en las palabras de San Juan Pablo II: “Tú eres el esplendor que de ninguna manera empaña la luz de Cristo, porque existes en él y por él. Todo en ti es fíat: eres la Inmaculada, a través de ti brilla la plenitud de la gracia. Aquí, pues, están tus hijos, reunidos ante ti”.
