CCD (Religious Education)

Because families with children have complicated schedules, our parish offers two religious education options for our children who attend public school.

Traditional CCD

Traditional CCD meets on Tuesdays from 4:00-5:00 PM from late September to early May. Classes are held weekly for students in grades 1 – 7. Occasional Class Masses are held with each grade and all those in grades 3 – 7 go to Confession in Advent and Lent.

Monthly Family CCD

Monthly Family CCD meets one Monday evening a month from 6:00-7:45 PM. Because this is a Family Program, parents are asked to participate to a larger degree.

A parent session (currently a Bible Study of the Gospel of Matthew) is held while the children are in their classes. At least one parent (or grandparent, etc.) per family must attend.

Teachers complete two chapters with the children at each Family CCD session. Parents are responsible for completing the following two chapters with their children prior to the next class.

Each family is asked to participate in two Family Activities each year – usually in Advent and Lent. These have included things like attending Benediction or the Stations of the Cross with your children.

Confirmation is usually received in February of eighth grade in our parish.  Eighth graders in public school meet to prepare for this sacrament at one of the following times:

  • Sunday morning at 10:00 AM (twice a month from October – January, with only one meeting in December)
  • Monday evening (at the same time as Family CCD)
  • Tuesday afternoons (at the same time as Traditional CCD)

Please call the parish office to register your children for CCD or to ask any questions you may have.

Catechists teach CCD (religious education) classes to parish children. Aids assist catechists in many ways. We are always looking for good-hearted people who are willing to help out in this important ministry. Background checks and Virtus Training (protecting God’s children) are required in this ministry.
