Dear Family!

Reflection: The Catechism of the Catholic Church presents us Christ’s whole life is as a mystery (CCC 414-521). In CCC 517 we read, “Christ’s whole life is a mystery of redemption. Redemption comes to us above all through the blood of his cross, but this mystery is at work throughout Christ's entire life:

• already in his Incarnation through which by becoming poor he enriches us with his poverty;
• in his hidden life which by his submission atones for our disobedience;
• in his word which purifies its hearers;
• in his healings and exorcisms by which "he took our infirmities and bore our diseases”;
• and in his Resurrection by which he justifies us.

The readings allude to our reception of this mystery. Only the children are able to grasp the mysteries of the Kingdom of God. The 1st reading speaks to us through the lips of prophet Zechariah that God overturns the concept of kingship. The king is not the one who is served but one who puts others at the center of his attention. The weak are not to be submissive to him; he puts himself at their service. His strength is what people consider a weakness.

The gospel challenges the good and righteous (the wise and the intelligent) who are rooted in human logic and criteria that God is friend only to them. The Father of Jesus (and all of us) instead goes to recover those that we throw in the trash; the public sinners because they are the most in need of God’s love.

Thank you!: I thank all the volunteers in 72 Disciples ministry for organizing the seminar for July. Please come with your family on the 12th of July at 6:30. Msgr. Seamus Brennan will be our presenter. Monsignor Brennan served as parochial vicar at our parish from 1974-1981 at the time of Monsignor Joseph Sheehan (1971-1979) and Monsignor Michael Corona (1979-2009). Monsignor Brennan is celebrating his 50th anniversary as a priest. It will be a great time to congratulate him and pray for him. He will be reflecting about ‘Eucharist and Holiness: Eucharist and community-building through ministries of Church’.

Thanks to all of you for your participating in our monthly holy hour to facilitate Eucharistic Revival in our parish. Thanks to all the volunteers for organizing the reception and farewell to our Principals. Thanks to all workers on different projects at the church and school. Thanks to all of you for your support of the Bishop’s Annual Appeal and the Pastor’s appeal.

Once-a-month Family Liturgy: To promote family worship and more children-friendly environment, we are planning a First Sunday 9am Mass to be a ‘Family Liturgy’. We will work closely with School and Faith Formation Parents to encourage their children to be part of the choir. In family liturgy, we are encouraging parents to lead their children in reading, singing and serving at the mass. Please help us in this important initiative. This will help us to bridge the gap between people in our parish and foster unity! We are planning and making all these opportunities available for you to promote a sense of community and to grow as a family. Your enthusiasm and active participation in these aspects will be a great encouragement to all volunteers. Please prayerfully consider being an active family in our parish!

¡Querida Familia!

Reflexión: El Catecismo de la Iglesia Católica nos presenta que toda la vida de Cristo es misterio (CIC 414-521). En CIC 517 leemos: “Toda la vida de Cristo es un misterio de redención. La redención nos llega sobre todo por la sangre de su cruz, pero este misterio está obrando a lo largo de toda la vida de Cristo:

• ya en su Encarnación por la cual haciéndose pobre nos enriquece con su pobreza;
• en su vida oculta que con su sumisión expía nuestra desobediencia;
• en su palabra que purifica a sus oyentes;
• en sus sanaciones y exorcismos por los cuales "tomó nuestras enfermedades y cargó con nuestras dolencias"; y en su Resurrección por la cual nos justifica.”

Las lecturas aluden a nuestra recepción de este misterio. Sólo los niños son capaces de captar los misterios del Reino de Dios. La 1ª lectura nos habla por boca del profeta Zacarías que Dios trastoca el concepto de realeza. El rey no es el que es servido sino el que pone a los demás en el centro de su atención. Los débiles no deben ser sumisos a él; se pone a su servicio. Su fuerza es lo que la gente considera una debilidad.

El evangelio desafía a los buenos y justos (los sabios y los inteligentes) que están arraigados en la lógica y el criterio humanos de que Dios es amigo solo de ellos.

El Padre de Jesús (y de todos nosotros) en cambio va a recuperar los que tiramos a la basura; los pecadores públicos porque son los más necesitados del amor de Dios.

Monseñor Brennan sirvió como vicario parroquial en nuestra parroquia de 1974 a 1981 en la época de Monseñor Joseph Sheehan (1971-1979) y Monseñor Michael Corona (1979-2009). Monseñor Brennan está celebrando su 50 aniversario como sacerdote. Será un gran momento para felicitarlo y orar por él. Estará reflexionando sobre 'Eucaristía y Santidad: Eucaristía y construcción de comunidad a través de los ministerios de la Iglesia'.

Gracias a todos ustedes por participar en nuestra hora santa mensual para facilitar el Avivamiento Eucarístico en nuestra parroquia. Gracias a todos los voluntarios por organizar la recepción y despedida de nuestros Directores. Gracias a todos los trabajadores en los diferentes proyectos de la iglesia y la escuela. Gracias a todos ustedes por su apoyo a la Campaña Anual del Obispo y la Campaña del Pastor.

Liturgia familiar una vez al mes: Para promover el culto familiar y un ambiente más amigable para los niños, estamos planeando una Misa del primer domingo a las 9 am como una "Liturgia familiar". Trabajaremos en estrecha colaboración con la escuela y los padres de formación en la fe para alentar a sus hijos a ser parte del coro. En la liturgia familiar, animamos a los padres a guiar a sus hijos en la lectura, el canto y el servicio en la misa. Por favor ayúdenos en esta importante iniciativa. ¡Esto nos ayudará a cerrar la brecha entre las personas de nuestra parroquia y fomentar la unidad!

Estamos planificando y poniendo a su disposición todas estas oportunidades para promover un sentido de comunidad y crecer como familia. Tu entusiasmo y participación en estos aspectos será un gran estímulo para todos los voluntarios. ¡Por favor considere en oración ser una familia activa en nuestra parroquia!
