Dear Family!

Reflection: People take up the subject on ‘Pro-Life’ mostly during the election time and use it for or against a presidential candidate. ‘Pro-Life’ must be understood in the context of our love and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ without whom we have no life let alone ‘Pro-Life’. How ‘Pro-Eucharist’ you are determines how ‘Pro-Life’ you are. Your love for the Eucharist, longing to receive the Body and Blood of Jesus through which we receive ‘Life’ in fulness, compels us to honor and respect our Godgiven, free gift of life.

The First reading is another integral aspect of being ‘Pro-Life’ which are often ignored and sometimes rejected. Treating human life with respect, nurturing human life especially the poor - ‘the widows and orphans, debtors, homeless, people who need our love and compassion are great sentiments of ‘Pro- Life’. People who use ‘Pro-Life’ sentiments only at the time of election and do not long to receive Jesus, the Author of Life are ‘Selective Pro-Lifers’, are continuously misinterpreting the Scriptures and often divide the people. We are either practicing Christians or non-Christians. A ‘Pro-Life’ Christian is a ‘practicing’ Christian.

‘Shema Yisrael’ is prayed three times daily by practicing Jews. Out of 613 commandments, Jesus choosing this commandment from Deuteronomy 6:4-9 is not surprising. But what is surprising is that Jesus combines Leviticus 19:18 with the ‘Shema Yisrael’. Jesus goes beyond all the overwhelming rules and regulations and cuts through all layers and points out to us what is essential in life. What is most important in your life? What has particularly enriched your life?

Orchestra Concert: November 24th, at 6pm we will have Orchestra ‘St. Peter by the Sea’. It is a very important fundraiser for the education of our children. I request you to purchase tickets and be part of this fundraiser. If you would like to help us with selling tickets, please call the parish office. We need your help in selling tickets

Eucharistic Revival Seminar: We have successfully hosted six seminars, thanks to all the volunteers of the ’72 Disciples’ ministry. Our seventh seminar is on NOV 8TH, 6:30pm. Fr. Charles O’Connor will be our presenter. The topic for the seminar is “Eucharist and Mission, Evangelization.” I continue to encourage you to make an effort to be part of community learning. It is crucial for the present and future of our faith and church that we learn and live our faith together.

Bible Study: We started our Bible Study on October 25th at 5pm in Mercy Hall with the Gospel According to St. Mark. There are nine study hours planned this season to cover the Gospel. I thank all the parishioners who joined the Bible Study; it shows how much you long to get to know the word of God. I strongly encourage the whole parish to use these opportunities for community learning.

Parish Census: As a parish we are obligated to give the diocese the right count on how many parishioners we have. It also helps us to prepare and plan our daily affairs like budget and future planning. It is also important to update our parish census as to sacramental entries, deaths and absence of people due to change of address etc.

¡Querida familia!

Reflexión: La gente aborda el tema “Pro-Vida” principalmente durante la época electoral y lo usa a favor o en contra de un candidato presidencial. "Pro-Vida" debe entenderse en el contexto de nuestro amor y fe en nuestro Señor Jesucristo, sin quien no tenemos vida y mucho menos "Pro-Vida". Qué tan “Pro-Eucaristía” eres determina qué tan “Pro-Vida” eres. Tu amor por la Eucaristía, el anhelo de recibir el Cuerpo y la Sangre de Jesús a través del cual recibimos la "Vida" en plenitud, nos obliga a honrar y respetar el regalo gratuito de la vida que Dios nos ha dado.

La Primera Lectura es otro aspecto integral de ser “Pro-Vida” que a menudo se ignora y a veces se rechaza. Tratar la vida humana con respeto, cuidar la vida humana, especialmente la de los pobres: "las viudas y los huérfanos, los deudores, las personas sin hogar, las personas que necesitan nuestro amor y compasión son grandes sentimientos de 'Pro-Vida'.

Las personas que usan sentimientos “Pro-Vida” sólo en el momento de la elección y no anhelan recibir a Jesús, el Autor de la Vida, son “Pro-Vida Selectivos”, están continuamente malinterpretando las Escrituras y a menudo dividen a la gente. O somos cristianos practicantes o no cristianos. Un cristiano “pro-vida” es un cristiano “practicante”.

Los judíos practicantes rezan el 'Shemá Israel' tres veces al día. De 613 mandamientos, no es sorprendente que Jesús haya elegido este mandamiento de Deuteronomio 6:4-9. Pero lo sorprendente es que Jesús combine Levítico 19:18 con el 'Shemá Israel'. Jesús va más allá de todas las reglas y regulaciones abrumadoras, atraviesa todas las capas y nos señala lo que es esencial en la vida. ¿Qué es lo más importante en tu vida? ¿Qué ha enriquecido particularmente tu vida?

Concierto de Orquesta: 24 de noviembre a las 6pm tendremos la Orquesta ‘St. Pedro junto al mar”. Es una recaudación de fondos muy importante para la educación de nuestros hijos. Les solicito que compren boletos y sean parte de esta recaudación de fondos. Si desea ayudarnos con la venta de boletos, llame a la oficina parroquial. Necesitamos su ayuda para vender boletos.

Seminario de Avivamiento Eucarístico: Hemos organizado con éxito seis seminarios, gracias a todos los voluntarios del ministerio '72 Discípulos'. Nuestro séptimo seminario es el 8 DE NOVIEMBRE a las 6:30 p.m. P. Charles O’Connor será nuestro presentador. El tema del seminario es “Eucaristía y Misión, Evangelización”. Sigo animándote a que hagas un esfuerzo para ser parte del aprendizaje comunitario. Es crucial para el presente y el futuro de nuestra fe y de nuestra iglesia que aprendamos y vivamos nuestra fe juntos.

Estudio Bíblico: Comenzamos nuestro Estudio Bíblico el 25 de octubre a las 5pm en Mercy Hall con el Evangelio Según San Marcos. Hay nueve horas de estudio previstas esta temporada para cubrir el Evangelio. Agradezco a todos los feligreses que se sumaron al Estudio Bíblico; muestra cuánto anhelas conocer la palabra de Dios. Recomiendo encarecidamente a toda la parroquia que aproveche estas oportunidades para el aprendizaje comunitario.

Censo Parroquial: Como parroquia estamos obligados a darle a la diócesis el recuento correcto de cuántos feligreses tenemos. También nos ayuda a preparar y planificar nuestros asuntos diarios como el presupuesto y la planificación futura. También es importante actualizar nuestro censo parroquial en cuanto a entradas sacramentales, muertes y ausencias de personas por cambio de dirección, etc. Agradezco a todos los voluntarios por ser parte de esta importante obligación.
