Dear Family!

Reflection: Peter’s whole life is a symbol of the church in itself. Peter was to encounter Jesus with the persuasion of his brother Andrew. He was to make known the revelation which has been given from above, that Jesus was the Christ. He was to get himself in a difficult and opposing position with Jesus on account of being very earthly in heart and mind. He was given the commission to lead the group of the apostles and gets his name and the meaning of his life changed by Jesus. Peter was set to betray Jesus and was to weep and repent later on to be encouraged by Jesus to tend His sheep.

We as one people of God held that Peter’s (and other Apostles) authority was passed down to his successors. The complimenting passage in the First Reading (Isaiah 22:19-23) reminds us that this Office of Peter is one of service and stewardship, comes with great responsibility to lead like Jesus and care like Jesus. In the Gospel Jesus entrusts the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church to the care of Peter to lead it in the Holy Name of Jesus. Peter’s confession gets him the awards of the keys of the Kingdom. The keys of the kingdom are faith, hope and love. Jesus telling Peter and other apostles “I will give you faith to build the church, I will also give you hope to look for the new heaven and a new earth. I will also teach you how to love like me, so that together we will build the Kingdom of God”. All baptized Christians share the ownership of the keys with Peter that we show the world how strong our faith is, how strong our hope is in expecting the world emerging from the Love of God in our own personal ways and hold high respect the ways that other religious show the same sentiments.

Best Wishes to Fr. Gilbert! We the community of St. Philip and St. James Catholic Church extend our gratitude to Fr. Gilbert, for his vocation and his priestly ministry with us for the past three years. I thank the welcoming committee in hosting us the Farewell Event for Fr. Gilbert! It was wonderful to see many of you joining us in Mercy Hall. Thanking a man of God for his services to community is a basic Christian value we all learn from our previous generations and pass them on to our next generation.

Eucharistic Revival Monthly Seminar: On September 13th we will have the next hour of learning about the Eucharist. This seminar will be a little different from the rest. The presenters will be lay people. The topic is “How does a lay person attend Mass”. This will be more relating to ordinary people compared to some difficult church theology. Once again, I leave it to your good heats to make every attempt to attend this important event. I am most interested in the people who never made any attempt to get to know our community so far, this is your God-given opportunity to do so. Come and be part of our parish family!

Orchestra of St. Peter by the Sea: Please support your parish in this important fundraiser to fund needed repairs in church buildings. The tickets are reasonable, and it would be a great community event for our town. I request you to spread the word and try to invite your family and friends for this Orchestra. Please buy the tickets!

Welcoming Fr. Wilson Jerusalem: Father will be beginning his ministry in our parish on the 1st of September. The bishop entrusts him to our care, and it is our responsibility to make him feel welcomed and loved. We will have a welcoming ceremony for Father on Sunday September 10th, after 11am Mass in Mercy Hall. As I suggested earlier, please make every effort to talk to him and get to know him.

Altar-Server Prayer Service & Training: There will be a 30 min prayer service planned for the Altar-Servers to begin the School year on Saturday, September 9th, 6pm in the Church. After the prayer service, there will be a short training for the new servers. I request all the servers and acolytes to attend. This is a great time to welcome the new servers and parents to meet and greet. There will be refreshments after the prayer service.

Martha Ministry and Facilities & Repairs Team: I thank all the volunteers who are regularly (Every Saturday) involved in these ministries. There is so much repair work and cleaning needed in Church, Mercy Hall and the rectory. Even if you can spend a half hour in helping your parish, it goes a long way! Please volunteer!

¡Querida Familia!

Reflexión: Toda la vida de Pedro es un símbolo de la iglesia en sí misma. Pedro iba a encontrar a Jesús con la persuasión de su hermano Andrés. Debía dar a conocer la revelación que se ha dado desde arriba, de que Jesús era el Cristo. Se encontraría en una posición difícil y opuesta con Jesús debido a que era muy terrenal en corazón y mente. Se le dio la comisión de liderar el grupo de los apóstoles y Jesús cambió su nombre y el significado de su vida. Pedro estaba destinado a traicionar a Jesús y más tarde debía llorar y arrepentirse para que Jesús lo animara a cuidar de sus ovejas.

Nosotros, como pueblo de Dios, sosteníamos que la autoridad de Pedro (y de otros apóstoles) se transmitía a sus sucesores. El pasaje complementario de la Primera Lectura (Isaías 22:19-23) nos recuerda que este Oficio de Pedro es de servicio y mayordomía, y conlleva una gran responsabilidad de liderar como Jesús y cuidar como Jesús. En el Evangelio Jesús confía la Iglesia Una, Santa, Católica y Apostólica al cuidado de Pedro para que la guíe en el Santo Nombre de Jesús. La confesión de Pedro le otorga las llaves del Reino. Las llaves del reino son la fe, la esperanza y el amor. Jesús diciéndole a Pedro y a otros apóstoles “Os daré fe para edificar la iglesia, también os daré esperanza para esperar el cielo y la tierra nuevos. También os enseñaré a amar como yo, para que juntos construyamos el Reino de Dios”. Todos los cristianos bautizados comparten con Pedro la propiedad de las llaves para mostrarle al mundo cuán fuerte es nuestra fe, cuán fuerte es nuestra esperanza al esperar que el mundo emerja del Amor de Dios a nuestra manera personal y tener un gran respeto por las formas en que otros Los religiosos muestran los mismos sentimientos.

Mis mejores deseos para el P. ¡Gilbert! Nosotros, la comunidad de la Iglesia Católica St. Philip y St. James, extendemos nuestro agradecimiento al P. Gilbert, por su vocación y su ministerio sacerdotal con nosotros durante los últimos tres años. ¡Agradezco al comité de bienvenida por haber organizado el evento de despedida del P. Gilbert! Fue maravilloso ver a muchos de ustedes uniéndose en Mercy Hall. Agradecer a un hombre de Dios por sus servicios a la comunidad es un valor cristiano básico que todos aprendemos de nuestras generaciones anteriores y los transmitimos a la siguiente.

Seminario Mensual de Avivamiento Eucarístico: El 13 de septiembre tendremos la próxima hora de aprendizaje sobre la Eucaristía. Este seminario será un poco diferente al resto. Los presentadores serán laicos. El tema es “¿Cómo asiste un laico a Misa?”. Esto se relacionará más con la gente común en comparación con alguna teología de la iglesia difícil. Una vez más, dejo a sus buenos amigos el hacer todo lo posible para asistir a este importante evento. Estoy más interesado en las personas que nunca han intentado conocer nuestra comunidad hasta ahora, esta es la oportunidad que Dios les ha dado para hacerlo. ¡Ven y sé parte de nuestra familia parroquial!

Orquesta de San Pedro junto al Mar: Apoye a su parroquia en esta importante recaudación de fondos para financiar las reparaciones necesarias en los edificios de la iglesia. Las entradas son razonables y sería un gran evento comunitario para nuestra ciudad. Les solicito que hagan correr la voz y traten de invitar a sus familiares y amigos a esta Orquesta. ¡Por favor compre las entradas!

Bienvenida al P. Wilson Jerusalén: El padre comenzará su ministerio en nuestra parroquia el 1 de septiembre. El obispo lo confía a nuestro cuidado y es nuestra responsabilidad hacerlo sentir acogido y amado. Tendremos una ceremonia de bienvenida para el Padre el domingo 10 de septiembre, después de la Misa de las 11 am en Mercy Hall. Como sugerí antes, haga todo lo posible por hablar con él y conocerlo.

Servicio y capacitación de oración del monaguillo: Habrá un servicio de oración de 30 minutos planificado para los Acólitos para comenzar el año escolar el sábado 9 de septiembre a las 6 p.m. en la Iglesia. Después del servicio de oración, habrá una breve capacitación para los nuevos servidores. Solicito a todos los servidores y acólitos que asistan. Este es un buen momento para dar la bienvenida a los nuevos servidores y a los padres para conocerlos y saludarlos. Habrá refrigerios después del servicio de oración.

Ministerio Martha y Equipo de Instalaciones y Reparaciones: Agradezco a todos los voluntarios que participan regularmente (todos los sábados) en estos ministerios. Se necesita mucho trabajo de reparación y limpieza en la Iglesia, Mercy Hall y la rectoría. Incluso si puedes dedicar media hora a ayudar a tu parroquia, ¡será de gran ayuda!
