Dear Family!

Reflection: Happy Labor Day to you! When Saint Augustine said, “You are my Lord, because You have no need of my goodness” we understand a little about the vastness of God, but it doesn’t empty us of our responsibility of the command of Jesus, “Be holy as your Father is Holy.” Certainly, as Scott Hahn puts it, ‘God disciplines us for our good, that we may share His holiness.” How would a Christian react to our tough situation? How would a leader, a prophet, the Church respond to the suffering, pain and misery that threaten our holiness? When we face underserved suffering, it is wise to approach it as a test that requires great faith.

Jeremiah learns the lesson of his life as the mouthpiece of God in his worst moment of his life and vocation. Origen of Alexandria (AD 185-254) presents a beautiful picture in learning from life situations; he says, “God does not deal with us as people who have already left childhood, who can no longer be led by sweet words but only by deeds.” Saint Paul prepares the Romans to be decile by teaching that the life of holiness requires that we offer our whole life as a sacrifice acceptable to God. This ‘Christian Docility’ paves a way for our holiness especially in the moment of suffering and anxiety. Saint Peter, like Prophet Jeremiah is encouraged by God to see the worst moments of our life as opportunities to be united to the suffering of Jesus Himself (Catechism 618). Jesus redeemed us through his suffering. We want to be made partners in that paschal mystery.

Best Wishes to our Students and Teachers! As we begin a new academic year, we wish the new principal and the whole staff along with students a wonderful year of learning and service. As Mahatma Gandhi used to say, “Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.” A word to our wonderful teachers…I thank you for your generosity. Your career as a teacher is a great service to our mother Church and also to our community. We pray for you and support you! We entrust our children to your care because we believe that our children learn not just from books but also from great standard that you set for all children through the radiance of Jesus, our Light!

Welcoming Fr. Wilson Jerusalem: Father began his ministry in our parish on the 1st of September. The bishop entrusts him to our care, and it is our responsibility to make him feel welcomed and loved. We will have a welcoming ceremony for Father on Sunday September 10th, after 11am Mass in Mercy Hall. As I suggested earlier, please make every effort to talk to him and get to know him.

Altar-Server Prayer Service & Training: There will be a 30 min prayer service planned for the Altar-Servers to begin the School year on Saturday, September 9th, 6pm in the Church. After the prayer service, there will be a short training for the new servers. I request all the servers and acolytes to attend. This is a great time to welcome the new servers and parents to meet and greet. There will be refreshments after the prayer service. For those who cannot make it this time, there will be an alternate date set for an additional training at the end of the month.

Eucharistic Revival Monthly Seminar: On September 13th we will have the next hour of learning about the Eucharist. This seminar will be a little different from the rest. The presenters will be lay people. The topic is “How does a lay person attend Mass”. This will be more relating to ordinary people compared to some difficult church theology. Once again, I leave it to your good heats to make every attempt to attend this important event. It would be a great joy to see new faces who never had the opportunity so far. Come and be part of our parish family!

Martha Ministry and Facilities & Repairs Team: I thank all the volunteers who are regularly (Every Saturday) involved in these ministries. There is so much repair work and cleaning needed in Church, Mercy Hall and the rectory. Even if you can spend a half hour in helping your parish, it goes a long way! Please volunteer!

¡Querida Familia!

Reflexión: ¡Feliz Día del Trabajo para ti! Cuando San Agustín dijo: “Tú eres mi Señor, porque no tienes necesidad de mi bondad”, entendemos un poquito de la inmensidad de Dios, pero no nos vacía de nuestra responsabilidad del mandato de Jesús: “Sed santos como vuestro Padre es Santo”. Ciertamente, como dice Scott Hahn, "Dios nos disciplina para nuestro bien, para que podamos compartir Su santidad". ¿Cómo reaccionaría un cristiano ante nuestra difícil situación? ¿Cómo respondería un líder, un profeta, la Iglesia al sufrimiento, el dolor y la miseria que amenazan nuestra santidad? Cuando nos enfrentamos a un sufrimiento desatendido, es prudente abordarlo como una prueba que requiere gran fe. Jeremías aprende la lección de su vida como portavoz de Dios en el peor momento de su vida y vocación. Orígenes de Alejandría (185-254 D.C.) presenta un hermoso cuadro de aprendizaje de las situaciones de la vida; Dice: “Dios no nos trata como a personas que ya han dejado la infancia, que ya no pueden dejarse guiar por dulces palabras sino sólo por hechos”. San Pablo prepara a los romanos para ser deciles enseñando que la vida de santidad requiere que ofrezcamos toda nuestra vida como sacrificio aceptable a Dios. Esta “docilidad cristiana” allana el camino hacia nuestra santidad, especialmente en los momentos de sufrimiento y ansiedad. San Pedro, al igual que el profeta Jeremías, es animado por Dios a ver los peores momentos de nuestra vida como oportunidades para unirnos al sufrimiento del mismo Jesús (Catecismo 618). Jesús nos redimió a través de su sufrimiento. Queremos ser partícipes de ese misterio pascual.

¡Mis mejores deseos para nuestros estudiantes y maestros! Al comenzar un nuevo año académico, le deseamos a la nueva directora y a todo el personal junto con los estudiantes un año maravilloso de aprendizaje y servicio. Como solía decir Mahatma Gandhi: “Vive como si fueras a morir mañana. Aprende como si fueras a vivir para siempre." Unas palabras para nuestros maravillosos maestros... Les agradezco su generosidad. Su carrera como maestro es un gran servicio para nuestra Iglesia madre y también para nuestra comunidad. ¡Oramos por ti y te apoyamos! Confiamos a nuestros niños a tu cuidado porque creemos que nuestros niños aprenden no sólo de los libros sino también de los grandes estándares que tú estableces para todos los niños a través del resplandor de Jesús, ¡nuestra luz!

Bienvenida al P. Wilson Jerusalén El Padre comenzó su ministerio en nuestra parroquia el 1 de septiembre. El obispo lo confía a nuestro cuidado y es nuestra responsabilidad hacerlo sentir acogido y amado. Tendremos una ceremonia de bienvenida para el Padre el domingo 10 de septiembre, después de la Misa de las 11 am en Mercy Hall. Como sugerí antes, haga todo lo posible por hablar con él y conocerlo.

Servicio y capacitación de oración del monaguillo: Habrá un servicio de oración de 30 minutos planificado para los monaguillos para comenzar el año escolar el sábado 9 de septiembre a las 6 p.m. en la Iglesia. Después del servicio de oración, habrá una breve capacitación para los nuevos servidores. Solicito a todos los servidores y acólitos que asistan. Este es un buen momento para dar la bienvenida a los nuevos servidores y a los padres para conocerlos y saludarlos. Habrá refrigerios después del servicio de oración. Para aquellos que no puedan asistir esta vez, se establecerá una fecha alternativa para una capacitación adicional a fin de mes.

Seminario Mensual de Avivamiento Eucarístico: El 13 de septiembre tendremos la próxima hora de aprendizaje sobre la Eucaristía. Este seminario será un poco diferente al resto. Los presentadores serán laicos. El tema es “¿Cómo asiste un laico a Misa?”. Esto se relacionará más con la gente común en comparación con alguna teología de la iglesia difícil. Una vez más, dejo a sus buenos amigos el hacer todo lo posible para asistir a este importante evento. Sería una gran alegría ver caras nuevas que hasta ahora nunca tuvieron la oportunidad. ¡Ven y sé parte de nuestra familia parroquial!

Ministerio de Martha y Equipo de Instalaciones y Reparaciones: Agradezco a todos los voluntarios que participan regularmente (todos los sábados) en estos ministerios. Se necesita mucho trabajo de reparación y limpieza en la Iglesia, Mercy Hall y la rectoría. Incluso si puedes dedicar media hora a ayudar a tu parroquia, ¡será de gran ayuda! ¡Por favor sea voluntario!
