Dear Family!

Reflection: On the 15th of October 2023, the Pope published another Apostolic Exhortation in honor of St. Therese of the Child Jesus and the Holy Face. In the 1st part the pope reflects on God’s merciful love and forgiveness. In the 2nd part he invites us to trust in God in moments of joy and also in difficulty. In the last part the pope invites us to share our trust in God with others.

On the World Food Day 2023 (16th of October), The Pope reminds us of our responsibility to care for each other. He wrote, “World Food Day is being celebrated at a time when many of our brothers and sisters are suffering from poverty and discouragement. Indeed, the cries of anguish and despair of the poor should awaken us from the lethargy that grips us and appeals to our consciences. The condition of hunger and malnutrition that seriously wounds so many human beings is the result of an iniquitous accumulation of injustices and inequalities that leaves many stranded in the gutter of life and allows a few to settle in a state of ostentation and opulence. This applies not only to food, but also to all basic resources, the inaccessibility of which for many people represents an affront to their intrinsic, God-given dignity. It is indeed an insult that should make the whole of humanity ashamed and mobilize the international community.”

The readings this Sunday teach about two kinds of leadership: King of Persia, Cyrus who was chosen by God to free the people of Israel from the chains of Babylon. God calls Cyrus, ‘Messiah’. A leadership from outside that unifies God’s people and saves them; The Pharisees and the Herodians (They are bitter enemies but follow, “the enemy of my enemy is a friend’ attitude). A leadership from inside that tries to annihilate the truth and destroys the head of the mystical body. A leadership that is favored by God is founded on love for God and others. Bible

Bible Study: We are starting our Bible Study on October 25th at 5pm in Mercy Hall. Please call the parish office for a suggested book for reference. We will begin our Bible Study with the Gospel According to St. Mark. There are nine study hours planned this season to cover the Gospel.

Orchestra Concert: Nov, at 6:00pm we will have Orchestra ‘St. Peter by the Sea’. It is a very important fundraiser for the education of our children. I request you to purchase tickets and be part of this fundraiser. If you would like to help us with selling tickets, please call the parish office. We need your help in selling tickets.

Eucharistic Revival Seminar: We have successfully hosted six seminars, thanks to all the volunteers of the ’72 Disciples’ ministry. Our seventh seminar is on NOV 8TH, 6:30pm. Fr. Charles O’Connor will be our presenter. The topic for the seminar is “Eucharist and Mission, Evangelization.” I continue to encourage you to make an effort to be part of the community learning. It is crucial for the present and future of our faith and church that we learn and live our faith together.

Parish Census: I thank the Legion of Mary in helping us with the Parish Census which is ongoing. As a parish we are obligated to give the diocese the right count on how many parishioners we have. It also helps us to prepare and plan our daily affairs like budget and future planning. It is also important to update our parish census as to sacramental entries, deaths and absence of people due to change of address etc. I thank all volunteers in being part of this important obligation.

On this Mission Sunday I pray for you and leave you with the Pope’s theme for mission Sunday this year, ‘Hearts on fire, feet on the move (Luke 24:13- 35). As the Pope encourages us in our missionary activity, that the word of God continues to illuminate and transform our hearts!

¡Querida familia!

Reflexión: El 15 de octubre de 2023 el Papa publicó otra Exhortación Apostólica en honor a Santa Teresa del Niño Jesús. En la primera parte el Papa reflexiona sobre el amor misericordioso y el perdón de Dios. En la 2ª parte nos invita a confiar en Dios en los momentos de alegría y también en los de dificultad. En la última parte el Papa nos invita a compartir con los demás nuestra confianza en Dios.

En el Día Mundial de la Alimentación de 2023 (16 de octubre), el Papa nos recuerda nuestra responsabilidad de cuidarnos unos a otros. Escribió: “El Día Mundial de la Alimentación se celebra en un momento en el que muchos de nuestros hermanos y hermanas sufren pobreza y desánimo. En efecto, los gritos de angustia y desesperación de los pobres deberían despertarnos del letargo que nos atenaza y apela a nuestras conciencias. La condición de hambre y desnutrición que hiere gravemente a tantos seres humanos es el resultado de una inicua acumulación de injusticias y desigualdades que deja a muchos varados en la cuneta de la vida y permite que unos pocos se establezcan en un estado de ostentación y opulencia. Esto se aplica no sólo a los alimentos, sino también a todos los recursos básicos, cuya inaccesibilidad para muchas personas representa una afrenta a su dignidad intrínseca otorgada por Dios. De hecho, es un insulto que debería avergonzar a toda la humanidad y movilizar a la comunidad internacional”.

Las lecturas de este domingo enseñan sobre dos tipos de liderazgo: Rey de Persia, Ciro fue elegido por Dios para liberar al pueblo de Israel de las cadenas de Babilonia. Dios llama a Ciro “Mesías”. Un liderazgo externo que unifique al pueblo de Dios y lo salve; Los fariseos y los herodianos (son enemigos acérrimos, pero siguen la actitud de “el enemigo de mi enemigo es un amigo”). Un liderazgo desde dentro que intenta aniquilar la verdad y destruye la cabeza del cuerpo místico. Un liderazgo favorecido por Dios se basa en el amor a Dios y a los demás.

Estudio Bíblico: Comenzaremos nuestro Estudio Bíblico el 25 de octubre a las 5 p.m. en Mercy Hall. Llame a la oficina parroquial para obtener un libro sugerido como referencia. Comenzaremos nuestro Estudio Bíblico con el Evangelio Según San Marcos. Hay nueve horas de estudio previstas esta temporada para cubrir el Evangelio.

Concierto de Orquesta: 24 de noviembre a las 6pm tendremos la Orquesta ‘St. Pedro junto al mar”. Es una recaudación de fondos muy importante para la educación de nuestros hijos. Les solicito que compren boletos y sean parte de esta recaudación de fondos. Si desea ayudarnos con la venta de boletos, llame a la oficina parroquial. Necesitamos su ayuda para vender entradas.

Charla de Avivamiento Eucarístico: Hemos organizado con éxito seis Charlas, gracias a todos los voluntarios del ministerio '72 Discípulos'. Nuestra séptima charla es el 8 DE NOVIEMBRE a las 6:30 p.m. El p. Charles O'Conner será nuestro presentador. El tema de la charla es “Eucaristía y Misión, Evangelización”. Sigo animándote a que hagas un esfuerzo por ser parte de la comunidad de aprendizaje. Es crucial para el presente y el futuro de nuestra fe y de nuestra iglesia que aprendamos y vivamos nuestra fe juntos.

Censo Parroquial: Agradezco a la Legión de María por ayudarnos con el Censo Parroquial que está en curso. Como parroquia estamos obligados a darle a la diócesis el recuento correcto de cuántos feligreses tenemos. También nos ayuda a preparar y planificar nuestros asuntos diarios como el presupuesto y la planificación futura. También es importante actualizar nuestro censo parroquial en cuanto a entradas sacramentales, muertes y ausencias de personas por cambio de dirección, etc. Agradezco a todos los voluntarios por ser parte de esta importante obligación.

En este Domingo de las Misiones oro por ustedes y les dejo con el tema del Papa para el Domingo de las Misiones de este año: “Corazones en llamas, pies en movimiento (Lucas 24:13-35). Mientras el Papa nos anima en nuestra actividad misionera, ¡la palabra de Dios continúa iluminando y transformando nuestros corazones!
