Dear Family!

Reflection: The readings this Sunday focus on repentance and humility. They are the sure ways of our salvation. The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches us that Jesus' call to conversion and penance does not aim first at outward works, "sackcloth and ashes," fasting and mortification, but at the conversion of the heart, interior conversion. Interior repentance is a radical reorientation of our whole life, a return, a conversion to God with all our heart, an end of sin, a turning away from evil. At the same time, it entails the desire and resolution to change one's life, with hope in God's mercy and trust in the help of his grace. (CCC 1430)

This Catechism encourages us to reflect on the nature of sin as sin is not just a violation of a rule or a law but a violation of our very nature. A sin is something wrong or evil that denies love, denies respect for God and others. Sin is a violation of Truth and Love. Jesus is the model of a perfect human person. Jesus’ spirit of service and selflessness that Saint Paul expresses in the second reading makes Jesus a model not just for Christians but for every person.

Speaking of the lukewarmness of the Fickle Son (In the Gospel Reading), St. John Vianney says, “by saying that there is no state so much to be feared for a person as that of lukewarmness, because a great sinner is more easily converted than a lukewarm soul. Let us pray to God with our whole hearts, if we find ourselves in this state, that he may grant us the grace to leave it, and to take that path which all the saints have taken, that we may attain to the bliss which they enjoy. This is what I wish you all” (St. John Vianney, the Cure of Ars, +1859).

Thank you: Once again, I thank the Welcoming Committee and all the clergy of our parish in making our Bishop’s visit a memorable one. I encourage you to join in all the parish celebrations especially when the bishop is in town. It is your Christian responsibility to meet the bishop and get his blessing whenever he visits us.

New Sound System: There were repeated requests for a new sound system, especially from our Seniors. We have listened to your request. I sincerely thank you for all your donations in getting us a new system. The contractor who replaced the old system shared with me that the old speakers were at least 30 years old.

Eucharistic Revival Monthly Seminar: The last seminar on “How a lay person understands and approaches the Eucharist” was very beneficial to many who attended, I welcome you to the next important seminar titled “Eucharist and Parish Life”. Father Brian Nolan will be here on the 3rd of October at 6:30pm. I thank the 72 Disciples Ministry in hosting this event for us. I thank my friend Father Brian Nolan in accepting our invitation to come here.

Garden Ministry: I thank you for volunteering to be part of this ministry. You can still be part of this ministry. Please call the parish office 908-454-0112

Parish Census: We have begun the work starting with the Hispanic Community. Please expect a letter from me requesting you to inform the parish of known changes to your address and contact information. This is a huge undertaking, and we need a lot of hands to accomplish this task. I request you to pray for all the volunteers who are part of this task. More information will follow.

Blessing of Animals: Fr. Patrick Boyle OFM will do a special prayer and will bless all the animals on Sunday, 1st of October at 12:30pm in the Church Parking Lot (Mercy Hall). Please bring all your pets and all animals! St. Francis, Pray for us!

Bible Study: After listening to many request to host Bible study in our parish, we are starting the Bible Study at the end of October leading us to Christmas Celebrations. We begin with the Gospel of Mark. If you would like to get a copy of the suggested book, please call the parish office 908-454-0112. More details will follow.

All Ministry Revision: With the advent of Fr. Wilson, we are revising all the ministries in our parish. Please contact your ministry leaders and be informed of changes and revisions. Do not hesitate to ask help from any clergy. We are here to serve you!

¡Querida familia!

Reflexión: Las lecturas de este domingo se centran en el arrepentimiento y la humildad. Son los caminos seguros de nuestra salvación. El Catecismo de la Iglesia Católica nos enseña que la llamada de Jesús a la conversión y a la penitencia no apunta en primer lugar a las obras exteriores, "cilicio y ceniza", ayuno y mortificación, sino a la conversión del corazón, la conversión interior.

El arrepentimiento interior es una reorientación radical de toda nuestra vida, un retorno, una conversión a Dios con todo el corazón, un fin del pecado, un alejamiento del mal.

Al mismo tiempo, implica el deseo y la resolución de cambiar la propia vida, con esperanza en la misericordia de Dios y confianza en la ayuda de su gracia. (CCC 1430)

Este Catecismo nos anima a reflexionar sobre la naturaleza del pecado, ya que el pecado no es sólo una violación de una regla o ley, sino una violación de nuestra propia naturaleza. Un pecado es algo malo o malo que niega el amor, niega el respeto a Dios y a los demás. El pecado es una violación de la Verdad y el Amor. Jesús es el modelo de una persona humana perfecta. El espíritu de servicio y altruismo de Jesús que San Pablo expresa en la segunda lectura hace de Jesús un modelo no sólo para los cristianos sino para todas las personas.

Hablando de la tibieza del Hijo Inconstante (en la lectura del Evangelio), San Juan Vianney dice, “al decir que no hay estado más temible para una persona que el de tibieza, porque un gran pecador se convierte más fácilmente que un alma tibia. Oremos a Dios de todo corazón, si nos encontramos en este estado, para que nos conceda la gracia de salir de él y tomar el camino que todos los santos han seguido, para que podamos alcanzar la bienaventuranza que ellos disfrutar. Esto es lo que os deseo a todos” (San Juan Vianney, Cura de Ars, +1859).

Gracias: Una vez más, agradezco al Comité de Bienvenida y a todo el clero de nuestra parroquia por hacer que la visita de nuestro Obispo sea memorable. Los animo a unirse a todas las celebraciones parroquiales, especialmente cuando el obispo está en la ciudad. Es su responsabilidad cristiana reunirse con el obispo y obtener su bendición cada vez que nos visite.

Nuevo sistema de sonido: Hubo repetidas solicitudes de un nuevo sistema de sonido, especialmente por parte de nuestros mayores. Hemos escuchado su petición. Sinceramente les agradezco todas sus donaciones para un nuevo sistema. El contratista que reemplazó el antiguo sistema me dijo que los viejos parlantes tenían al menos 30 años.

Seminario Mensual de Avivamiento Eucarístico: La última charla sobre “Cómo un laico entiende y aborda la Eucaristía” fue muy beneficioso para muchos de los que asistieron. Les doy la bienvenida al próxima charle importante titulado “Eucaristía y vida parroquial”. El padre Brian Nolan estará aquí el 3 de octubre a las 6:30 p.m. Agradezco al Ministerio 72 Discípulos por organizar este evento para nosotros. Agradezco a mi amigo el Padre Brian Nolan por aceptar nuestra invitación de venir aquí.
