Dear Family!

Reflection: The readings remind us of our duty to be partakers of the banquet of the Lord. Isaiah’s time has seen poverty of people who could not afford great banquets. Banquets were organized by the kings for political reasons or for victory over enemies. ‘Banquet’ like a wedding feast is the biblical image of the encounter of love between the Lord and Israel. ‘Banquet’ is also the symbol of happiness in the time of the Messiah. It is the ‘banquet’ that unites us with the Kingdom of God.

Saint Pope John Paul II summarized the concept of the Kingdom of God, “In a word, the Kingdom of God is the manifestation and the realization of God’s plan of salvation in all its fulness (Redemptoris Missio #15) “The Kingdom is not a thing, it is not a geographical dominion like worldly kingdoms. It is a person; it is he.” (Pope Benedict, Jesus of Nazareth, Part 1)

Saint Gregory the great explains who God is and who we are through the parable: “The marriage is the wedding of Christ and his church, and the garment is the virtue of charity: a person who goes into the feast without a wedding garment is someone who believes in the Church but does not have charity.” (In Evan. Homily. 36). How blessed we are to receive that invitation from God to be part of the banquet!

At the Priest Convocation this year: The presenter this year was Rhonda Gruenewald aka ‘Vocation Lady’. She is from Texas and a convert to Catholicism. As a parishioner of St. Cecilia in Houston, TX, she started volunteering in the field of vocations at her parish. (We do have the St. Vianney Vocation Group in our parish and thank them for their ministry). “This passion grew to become a Vocation Ministry of 20 members promoting, affirming, and bringing awareness to vocations in every way possible” said Bishop Checchio. We pray for Rhonda and her team for their inspiration and ministry to our church.

Thank you! I thank the volunteers and parents in revitalizing our parish with the mass for children and the choir for children. We need more children in our worship, and it is a great blessing to pray with our children. I strongly encourage all parents to bring their children and encourage them to be part of the parish choir. A special word of thanks to our Music Ministry coordinator Lisa Sforza.

Bible Study: There has been a considerable number of requests for Bible Study in our parish. We are starting our Bible Study on October 25th at 5pm in Mercy Hall. Please call the parish office for a suggested book for reference. We will begin our Bible Study with the Gospel According to St. Mark. There are nine study hours planned this season to cover the Gospel.

Orchestra Concert: November 24th, at 6pm we will have Orchestra ‘St. Peter by the Sea’. It is a very important fundraiser for the education of our children. I request you to purchase tickets and be part of this fundraiser. If you would like to help us with selling tickets, please call the parish office. We need your help in selling tickets.

Eucharistic Revival Seminar: We have successfully hosted six seminars, thanks to all the volunteers of ’72 Disciples’ ministry. Our seventh seminar is on NOV 8TH, 6:30pm. Fr. Charles O’Conner will be our presenter. The topic for the seminar is “Eucharist and Mission, Evangelization.” I continue to encourage you to make an effort to be part of the continuous community of learning. It is crucial for the present and future of our faith and church that we learn and live our faith together.

Parish Census: I thank the Legion of Mary in helping us with the Parish Census which is ongoing. As a parish we are obligated to give the diocese the right count on how many parishioners we have. It also helps us to prepare and plan our daily affairs like budget and future planning. It is also important to update our parish census as to sacramental entries, deaths and absence of people due to change of address etc. I thank all volunteers in being part of this important obligation.

Reflexión: Las lecturas nos recuerdan nuestro deber de ser partícipes del banquete del Señor. En la época de Isaías se vio la pobreza de personas que no podían permitirse grandes banquetes. Los reyes organizaban banquetes por motivos políticos o para vencer a los enemigos. El “banquete” como un banquete de bodas es la imagen bíblica del encuentro de amor entre el Señor e Israel. El “Banquete” es también el símbolo de la felicidad en los tiempos del Mesías. Es el “banquete” que nos une al Reino de Dios.

San Papa Juan Pablo II resumió el concepto del Reino de Dios, “En una palabra, el Reino de Dios es la manifestación y la realización del plan de salvación de Dios en toda su plenitud (Redemptoris Missio #15) “El Reino no es una cosa, no es un dominio geográfico como los reinos mundanos. Es una persona; es él." (Papa Benedicto, Jesús de Nazaret, Parte 1)

San Gregorio Magno explica quién es Dios y quiénes somos nosotros a través de la parábola: “Las bodas son las bodas de Cristo y su iglesia, y el vestido es la virtud de la caridad: una persona que va a la fiesta sin traje de bodas es alguien que cree en la Iglesia pero no tiene caridad”. (En Evan. Homilía. 36). ¡Cuán bendecidos somos de recibir esa invitación de Dios a ser parte del banquete!

En la convocatoria de sacerdotes de este año: la presentadora de este año fue Rhonda Gruenewald, también conocida como "Vocation Lady". Ella es de Texas y se convierto al catolicismo. Como feligresa de Santa Cecilia en Houston, TX, comenzó a trabajar como voluntaria en el campo de las vocaciones en su parroquia. (Tenemos el Grupo Vocacional St. Vianney en nuestra parroquia y les agradecemos por su ministerio). “Esta pasión creció hasta convertirse en una Pastoral Vocacional de 20 miembros que promueven, afirman y conciencian sobre las vocaciones en todos los sentidos posibles”, dijo el obispo Checchio. Oramos por Rhonda y su equipo por su inspiración y ministerio a nuestra iglesia.

¡Gracias! Agradezco a los voluntarios y padres por revitalizar nuestra parroquia con la misa para niños y el coro para niños. Necesitamos más niños en nuestra adoración y es una gran bendición orar con nuestros hijos. Recomiendo encarecidamente a todos los padres que traigan a sus hijos y los aliento a ser parte del coro parroquial. Un agradecimiento especial a nuestra coordinadora del Ministerio de Música, Lisa Sforza.

Estudio Bíblico: Ha habido un número considerable de solicitudes de Estudio Bíblico en nuestra parroquia. Comenzaremos nuestro Estudio Bíblico el 25 de octubre a las 5 p.m. en Mercy Hall. Llame a la oficina parroquial para obtener un libro sugerido como referencia. Comenzaremos nuestro Estudio Bíblico con el Evangelio Según San Marcos. Hay nueve horas de estudio previstas esta temporada para cubrir el Evangelio.

Concierto de Orquesta: 24 de noviembre a las 6pm tendremos la Orquesta ‘St. Peter by the Sea”. Es una recaudación de fondos muy importante para la educación de nuestros hijos. Les solicito que compren boletos y sean parte de esta recaudación de fondos. Si desea ayudarnos con la venta de boletos, llame a la oficina parroquial. Necesitamos su ayuda para vender entradas.

Charla de Avivamiento Eucarístico: Hemos organizado con éxito seis seminarios, gracias a todos los voluntarios del ministerio '72 Discípulos'. Nuestro séptimo charla es el 8 DE NOVIEMBRE a las 6:30 p.m. P. Charles O'Conner será nuestro presentador. El tema de la charla es “Eucaristía y Misión, Evangelización”. Sigo animándolos a que hagas un esfuerzo por ser parte de la comunidad de aprendizaje continuo. Es crucial para el presente y el futuro de nuestra fe y de nuestra iglesia que aprendamos y vivamos nuestra fe juntos.

Censo Parroquial: Agradezco a la Legión de María por ayudarnos con el Censo Parroquial que está en curso. Como parroquia estamos obligados a darle a la diócesis el recuento correcto de cuántos feligreses tenemos. También nos ayuda a preparar y planificar nuestros asuntos diarios como el presupuesto y la planificación futura. También es importante actualizar nuestro censo parroquial en cuanto a entradas sacramentales, muertes y ausencias de personas por cambio de dirección, etc. Agradezco a todos los voluntarios por ser parte de esta importante obligación
